A stunning new report has revealed that a top Al Ahly star, who was heavily admired by former boss Pitso Mosimane, could leave the club in January after attracting interest from Qatar.

With the January window on the horizon, some arrivals and departures are expected to take place at the Club of the Century.

Recent reports in Egypt suggest that the Red Devils have made an offer for Danish striker Wessam Abou Ali of IK Sirius, the same Swedish club South Africa's Tashreeq Matthews represents.

Other reports suggest that two current Al Ahly players have drawn attention from other teams, including captain and goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, who is said to be a target for Saudi Pro League club Damac.

However, another important player could be headed out in the upcoming window, with Qatari publication Al Raya claiming that Qatar SC are keen on signing midfielder Aliou Dieng next month.

Having arrived in Cairo from MC Alger back in 2019, the Mali international has gone on to establish himself as one of the first names on Ahly's teamsheet.

It is further claimed Qatar SC are facing competition for the defensive midfielder's signature, however, with Belgian clubs also looking at the possibility of signing the 26-year-old.

Dieng has had some prominent admirers in recent years, with his former boss Pitso Mosimane revealing in February 2022 that legendary Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger was impressed by his ability.

"Arsene Wenger asked me about him. He says you have a wonderful player, you’ve got a good player," Mosimane said, according to KingFut.

"So I look at [Marvelous] Nakamba, the boy who's playing in Aston Villa, from Zimbabwe, and I look at the boy playing for Leicester City as a six [Nigeria's Wilfred Ndidi]. I also look at [Thomas] Partey, who's playing for Arsenal, I say, 'Really, guys? Is there really much of a difference?'

"And he [Dieng] is playing in the national team of Mali and he's playing for Al Ahly. He's a two-time Champions League winner and won the bronze medal two times in the [FIFA Club] World Cup.

"And the CAF Super Cup twice, the league, the Egyptian Cup; I mean, what else does he have to win? He's got experience, and somebody has to open their eyes. Somebody has a player to get in Africa.

"He can play as a six and an eight and he fits in all the systems and all the modules. He's fit, he's strong, he's young, he can press, he runs 90 minutes, he's got all the attributes that are needed in the Premier League.

"I'm not saying Chelsea or Man United or Liverpool, but he can play with other teams."
