Renowned pastor and Idols South Africa season 8 winner Khaya Mthethwa has recently received mixed feedback from the South African public following his recent post on the social media platform X.

Over the weekend the 36-year-old musician shared a post reminding parents how privileged they are to be living in the same home as their children.

He wrote: “Count it a blessing to live with your child… drop offs are so heartbreaking.”

Khaya, now also a radio and television presenter; and the pastor of Oasis church has been candid about the failed marriage to former Miss South Africa Ntando Kunene.

The two share a son and divorced in 2019 after just two years of being married.

In an interview with Wisdom and Wellness, he explained that the effects of the COVID lockdown the following year just intensified how he felt after the divorce and that he found himself struggling.

“We broke up, then we went into lockdown. I was alone in my house for eight months … Thank God I didn’t have to go to church because I would have collapsed,” he said.

“It was a period for me to unlearn and it was a huge awakening to the man I was and a huge awakening to who I wanted to be. I was on antidepressants, and I was sleeping my life away.”

The young couple later decided that even though Khaya would not gain custody of the child, they would work together and come to a co-parenting agreement.

Ntando also later revealed that she would not be heading to court to claim maintenance money from the singer as she believed that he was a good father and would naturally fulfil his obligations.

These were some of the comments following his recent post:

One of the saddest situations I have ever been. I used to carry to much guilt and to think these kids never asked to be born especially in a messy situation. Co-parenting is not nice but it is necessary in some situations

Despite none of them revealing what the challenges that they faced were, in a sermon, Khaya previously revealed that God knew in January 2018 that he did not want to be married.

He said: “When I said to God, I don’t think I want to be married anymore. I told God that in January. I’m like, ‘I think I’m done.’”.

This caused some followers to come at him saying that he is now experiencing the effects of his choices.

You broke your own home, live with it!!

If you stayed faithful to your wife you wouldn’t be here.
