Buoyed by the reinvigorated ANC election campaign in KwaZulu-Natal, the party’s leadership in Moses Mabhida has vowed to block the advancing uMkhonto we Sizwe Party’s (MKP’s) campaign to win over ANC supporters.

Addressing the media during a stakeholder dinner in Pietermaritzburg, ANC Moses Mabhida regional chairperson Mzimkhulu Thebolla said the ruling party in the region has reactivated its structures as part of the campaign to keep the MK Party at bay.

What’s really making things easier for the ANC in the Moses Mabhida region is that our people in this region know what the ANC has done for them.

“They can’t suddenly forget about the houses which the ANC has built for them, the electricity which they have not been getting, but are now getting as a result of the ANC. They can’t be deceived by a political party that has never done anything for them.

“In the past, there were individuals who tried to deceive our people after they had left the ANC to join other political parties. They did not succeed. Even this MK Party being spoken about will suffer the same fate — they won’t get any support from our people,” he said.

Thebolla, who is also the mayor of Msunduzi Municipality, was flanked by other ANC Moses Mabhida region mayors, including uMkhambathini Municipality Mayor Nhlakanipho Ntombela, Richmond Municipality Mayor Bonginkosi Ngcongo, and Msunduzi Deputy Mayor Mxolisi Mkhize.

The ANC in the Moses Mabhida region, Thebolla said, would also ensure that the IFP did not eat from ruling party support.

We have already told our people about the IFP’s plan to remove the provincial legislature from Pietermaritzburg and relocate it to Ulundi. Our people know how important the provincial legislature is for the economy of this region.

“It would be impossible for anyone in the region to vote for a political party which has made it clear that it wants to undermine the economy of this region,” he said
