Premier League round-up: Everton get huge boost in relegation fight ...

Goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil were enough to give Everton a 2-0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest in the battle to stay up.

16th met 17th place in the Sunday lunchtime kick-off, as Sean Dyche and Nuno Espirito Santo went head-to-head. Their sides were split by just one point at the game’s start, and just shy of the half-hour, it was the Senegalese midfielder Gueye who put the hosts in front at Goodison Park.

A clearing header from Ola Aina fell perfectly for the former Paris Saint-Germain player 25 yards out, and his low effort skidded beyond the clasp of Matz Sels in the Forest goal.

A brilliant save was needed from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to deny Chris Wood from close range after a swift break from the visitors five minutes before the break.

Forest continued to probe in the second half, but it was the Toffees who went closest in the early exchanges, as, from a McNeil corner, James Tarkowski knocked the ball down for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, only for the striker to slice wide of the left post.

Morgan Gibbs-White went close on the hour after he was picked out by Murillo with a clever flat ball, but, shaping to bend it into the far corner, the attacking midfielder could only guide the ball wide of the mark.

He was made to pay for his miss with 14 minutes to go, as McNeil doubled the Toffees' tally with a low drive from range, assisted by Abdoulaye Doucoure's set.

With seven games to go for Everton, and six for Forest, these three points could be crucial in Sean Dyche's quest to keep his club up.

Aston Villa strengthen hold on fourth place with win over Bournemouth

Aston Villa came back from a goal down to beat Bournemouth 3-1 thanks to strikes from Morgan Rogers, Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey.

A vital three points sees Unai Emery's side strengthen their grip on fourth place in the Premier League.

Dominic Solanke opened the scoring for the visitors after Matty Cash chopped down Milos Kerkez in the box. The striker slammed the penalty past Emi Martinez for his 18th league goal of the season.

Villa found their equaliser shortly before the break with a breakaway score. Leon Bailey played a superb pass to Rogers, who capped his run into the box with a powerful shot.

Ollie Watkins, who has netted 19 times for the club so far this season, put on his playmaking boots and delivered two fine assists for Villa's second and third goals.

He teed up Diaby with a smooth pass into the box to fire home at the near post in the 57th minute to take the lead. Just over 20 minutes later Watkins found Bailey at the far post for a simple finish from close-range, wrapping up the three points.

West Ham's European ambitions take hit in heavy loss

David Moyes' side experienced a forgettable first-half at Selhurst Park, conceding four ties in 31 minutes.

Michael Olise opened the scoring just seven minutes in, with Eberechi Eze netting with a daring bicycle kick nine minutes later.

Four minutes later, Emerson worsened the Hammers’ woes when he turned the ball into his own net after a miscommunication with Lukasz Fabianski.

The fourth came from Jean-Philippe Mateta, who was left unmarked to slip Palace’s fourth in.

Michail Antonio pulled one back before half-time before Mateta fired in his second and even a late error from Dean Henderson, allowing Tyrick Mitchell's pass to bobble into his own goal, couldn’t take the shine off Palace’s victory – their first back-to-back Premier League victories in a year.

Liverpool move past City with Fulham win

Liverpool secured a 3-1 win over Fulham that sees them overlap Man City in the table again to sit level with Arsenal, although Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand.

Diogo Jota capped his first league start with a goal and Jurgen Klopp made the bold choice of starting Mohammed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Alexis Mac Allister all on the bench.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a brilliant free-kick just after 30 minutes only for it to be cancelled out shortly before half-time by Timothy Castagne.

Ryan Gravenberch gifted the lead back to his side with a wonderful strike after Harvey Elliot picked up a sloppy pass from Alex Iwobi.

While Bernd Leno could hardly be blamed for allowing Gravenberch’s shot to fire past him, he arguably could have done better with Jota’s shot from a saveable range 20 minutes later.

After crashing out of Europe at Atalanta’s hands, without the FA Cup semi-final they had planned for and still reeling from a surprise home defeat to Crystal Palace, Klopp has managed to reinvigorate his side’s title hopes as the season dwindles.
