Chelsea Under-21s head coach Mark Robinson is expecting an improved performance from his team as the Blues bid to secure a place in the Premier League 2 title play-offs when we take on Aston Villa, in a match which will be streamed live on the Official Chelsea App.

Following a disappointing loss to Nottingham Forest in our previous Premier League 2 match, Mark Robinson wants to see further improvement from Chelsea Under-21s in our next game, despite getting back to winning ways with a Premier League Cup quarter-final victory over Leeds United last time out.

We return to league action on Monday with an away trip to Aston Villa, kick-off at 6pm, and you can watch the match live on the Official Chelsea App.

We are currently well placed to qualify for the championship-deciding play-offs and a win on Monday would mathematically end any chance of the Midlands side catching our points tally, with a good chance to secure our place in the knockout stage of the season with two games to spare.

That is, if the Blues can shake off the cobwebs which Robinson felt hindered the performance against Leeds in our first match since the international break.

'I felt the performance against Leeds lacked a bit of energy, but I can kind of accept that after two-and-a-half weeks without a game for some of them,' said Robinson.

'It’s very hard to recreate that game intensity in training, but now we’ve had a game under our belts, I certainly want to see more intensity again in our performances going forward.

'If we beat Villa that pretty much puts us into the play-offs and then it’s just a matter of finishing as high as we can in the league, to give us the best play-off position, and being ready for the play-offs themselves.'

However, while Robinson has been clear on where he sees a need for improvement, he is also confident that if the team take on board that message on board about avoiding lapses and focusing on small margins, they have the ability to finish the season strongly, starting at Aston Villa on Monday evening.

'I think sometimes a lot of their development rising up through the Academy has been thinking “we will score more goals than you”. When you’re in the younger ages you can probably get away with it, knowing you can get a third or fourth goal if you go behind.

'But as you get older and you get closer to the real game, that’s not the reality. Games can shift on one little thing, whether it’s not setting up quickly on a throw, not blocking your man at a corner. That’s the side of the game they’ve got to understand, because it becomes very different.

'It’s just them recognising those moments and if they do that I’m sure that we’ll win games consistently, like we did at the beginning of the year, and finish up with a really positive season.'
