Bradford City Women sign goalkeeper from Wakefield AFC
BRADFORD City Women’s disappointment over their league game against Alnwick Town Juniors on Sunday being called off due to a frozen pitch has been eased by a new signing in the shape of goalkeeper Laura Wilson.
After joining City as their new head coach last month, Emily Senior moved quickly to snap up centre-back Sharone Buckle, whose most recent team were neighbours Huddersfield Town, while new girl Wilson was announced on Tuesday night, joining the club from Wakefield AFC.
Buckle made her Bantams debut in their 2-0 win at Silsden Ladies in the West Riding County Cup second round last time out on Sunday, November 26.
That has put them through into a tricky home tie against Halifax FC Women, who play their football two divisions above City.
That third-round game is due to take place on Sunday, December 17, but City have another game at Horsfall before then, a North East Regional Women’s Football League clash against promotion rivals Barnsley this coming weekend, where Wilson will hope to make her debut for the club.
Striker Aaliyah Nolan is unlikely to feature this Sunday, as she has been in international action this week for her country, Bermuda.
If she misses out, then City will likely be relying on Kanisha Underdown as their main goalscoring threat, and it was she who netted both goals in the County Cup win at Silsden.
City will have gone two weeks without a game between that cup success and the clash with Barnsley.
The Bantams were also supposed to be at Horsfall for that aforementioned league game with Alnwick last Sunday, but that will now have to be rearranged for some point in the New Year.
The North-East side sit seventh in the 12-team table, but have only played five games, less than anyone else in the division so far.
They proved their worth when they faced the Bantams in August, as City were left with a long trip back home to West Yorkshire after a grim 5-0 away defeat.
