Say what you may about M Night Shyamalan’s films, but he always comes with a captivating premise. For his upcoming film Trap, he has come up with another wickedly ingenious plot. Even the trailer of the movie plays out like a thriller with a twist in the end.
A father takes his daughter to the concert of her beloved singer Lady Raven. The child is uncontrollably excited about the concert, while the dad leaves her for a restroom break. He quickly notices something amiss with the event only to find out that the whole concert is a trap to nab a serial killer, who goes by the name The Butcher.
Till now, the plot is in line with the trope of a father and his kin struck amidst a disaster. Here the disaster is that a serial killer is on the loose at the concert where the protagonist is in attendance with his child. Now, turn the genre on its head. What if the dad is the serial killer? It breaks open new possibilities and that’s the premise of M Night Shyamalan’s next.

Night Shyamalan, Marc Bienstock, and Ashwin Rajan, in association with Warner Bros, the film stars Josh Hartnett as the dad/The Butcher, Ariel Donoghue as his daughter, Saleka Shyamalan as Lady Raven. Hayley Mills and Allison Pill are other actors in the movie. Trap will be released on August 9.
