Langelihle Phili has signed his first professional contract with Stellenbosch FC after breaking into the first team this season.

Having joined Stellenbosch FC at the start of last season, Phili enjoyed a breakout year at academy and reserve team level where he helped the Club win the Engen Knockout Challenge, Engen Champ of Champs, DStv Diski Challenge, and Premier League Next Generation Cup titles.

His performances also earned him international recognition in the form of a South Africa U-20 national team call-up, and his senior debut followed on the last day of the 2023/24 season when he featured as a substitute in the league clash against Richards Bay.

Major, as Phili is affectionately known, has since been promoted to the first team and scored his first goal for the Maroons on his first start during the Club’s recent 5-0 (8-0 aggregate) win over Nsingizini Hotspurs in the CAF Confederation Cup First Preliminary Round.

“I am excited, motivated, and at the same time grounded after signing my first professional contract with the club,” Phili said after putting pen to paper.

“This doesn’t happen to everyone and I’ve been wanting this for a long time. Now that it has happened, I want to make sure I do my best for the club and showcase my abilities. I’m not only representing myself but also my family and I need to make it for them as well.

“Last season’s success with the Diski team has helped me to grow as an individual and as a team player, and I must give credit to everyone who helped me to be where I am today because without them it would not have been possible.”
