This year has not been the best for Ryan Garcia. His problems outside the ring cost him not only his championship but a considerable amount of money. However, while he continues to serve his suspension for doping, the former world middleweight champion is taking advantage to replace his losses, at least the financial ones.

Everyone knows that the "KingRy" is a fan of betting. In his most recent fight alone, Garcia bet $2 million on his victory over Devin Haney and, in addition, offered his rival to pay $500,000 for each pound overweight he had for their match.

In the end, Garcia won the fight but was 3.2 pounds over the maximum weight of 140 in the middleweight division. Thus, the former champion had to pay $1.5 million to his rival. As if that wasn't enough, his positive test for banned substances cost him at least $2 million in fines from the $50 million purse he took home for the fight.

To begin making up for what he lost, KingRy decided to seek Dricus Du Plessis' help, albeit in a very unorthodox way. The former middleweight world champion bet $500,000 on the South African's fight against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305.

The KingRy's clinical eye

There's no denying that Garcia has a good eye when it comes to combat sports. The former middleweight world champion knows how to evaluate other fighters, and that skill paid off handsomely this Saturday.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Garcia announced, "I bet 500k on South Africa," referring to the UFC middleweight title fight. As is already known, Du Plessis took the victory by a knockdown at 3:38 minutes of the fourth round.

KingRy didn't hide his happiness with the result. "I F**KING TOLD YOU STOP DOUBTING ME. LETS GOOO 500k," the Californian posted on Twitter after Du Plessis'victory. The South African arrived as the underdog with odds of +100, which means that Garcia doubled his money.

The future of Ryan Garcia

The road is still long for the fighter. His one-year suspension for doping is just beginning, and after that, Garcia will start the path to regain the titles he lost for the same reason.

In the meantime, betting is a good way to entertain himself. In addition, Garcia has hinted that he could try his luck in the UFC, in a fight against Sean O'Malley.

He has even said that he would like to try a bare-knuckle fight. However, given Garcia's temperament, it is unlikely that any of those possibilities will materialize, so we will have to wait a year for the return of one of the most controversial fighters of recent years.
