DC 16/0 in 2 Overs

A dot ball follows as the ball swings out, beating Warner. Another dot but this time the ball cut in and beats the batter again. A single follows as Warner strikes it down on the off-side. A little short next as Shaw switches the strike again. FOUR!!! Warner hits it across mid-wicker for a boundary to end the over.

Badoni-Arshad show gives Lucknow hope

Ayush Badoni and Arshad Khan’s unbroken 73-run partnership off just 42 balls has given Lucknow Super Giants a serious chance of yet again successfully defending a target. From 94/7, after Kuldeep Yadav wrecked LSG’s middle-order with three wickets in two overs, the duo played a crucial hand, picking their moments to attack the bowling to eventually put up a respectable total. Delhi isn’t known to chase targets well, while Lucknow has been the most successful in defending targets since 2022. So, it’s game on! P.S. Lucknow has never lost a match while defending 160+ runs.

LSG 167/7 in 20 overs

Ishant Sharma to bowl the final over. FOUR! Half-volley outside off and Badoni slices it over extra-cover for a boundary. Slower one next up and Badoni mishits it to long-on and doesn’t run. This is outside the tramline on the off-side and called wide. Badoni charges down the track and pulls to deep midwicket for just a single. FOUR! Arshad whips this yorker length ball outside off for a one-bounce four at deep point. Dropped! Full toss, and Badoni hammers it to long-on, where Warner cannot hold on to a tough catch, but does well to keep it to a single. Slower one outside off and Badoni hits it back to Ishant for a dot ball.

LSG 156/7 in 19 overs

Abishek Porel comes in as Impact Player and Khaleel Ahmed goes out. Mukesh Kumar has the ball. FOUR! Mid-off inside, the ball is pitched up and Badoni lifts this over the circle for a boundary. That’s the 50-run partnership, off just 33 balls. FOUR! Innovation at its best from Badoni. He gets low after shuffling across his stumps and sweeps this to the square-leg fence. Mukesh comes around the wicket. Badoni clips this yorker to long-on and comes back for the second. Badoni shuffles across again and tries the ramp but doesn’t get a good connection. Badoni gloves an attempted scoop to the keeper, and Pant throws it unnecessarily to allow them to come back for two. Low full toss and put away for a single. That’s a 31-ball fifty for Badoni.

LSG 143/7 in 18 overs

Khaleel comes back for his final over. SIX! Banged in short and Badoni has pulled this into the stands, over deep square-leg. Short ball again and swatted away by Badoni to deep midwicket for a single. FOUR! This is hammered over cover by Arshad for his first boundary. Beaten! Arshad looks to slash this behind point but misses, beaten by some extra bounce. Good yorker and Arshad only manages to put it away for two leg-byes. Khaleel can’t believe it is not given lbw and DC has no reviews left. Dropped! This balloons high up in the air, Prithvi Shaw gets under it at midwicket and makes a mess of it. Batters run a couple of runs.

LSG 128/7 in 17 overs

Now Axar will bowl out. Badoni steps out and pushes this through cover for a single. Arshad collects one more with a heave to long-on. A couple of runs for Badoni as he stpes out and goes inside out over cover. Two more next ball as Badoni clips this off his pads to deep midwicket. Arshad misses the cut and Axar ends with 0/24 in 4 overs.

LSG 121/7 in 16 overs

Kuldeep bowls out. Starts with one that slides down leg-side for a wide. Clipped off the pads by Arshad for a single at fine-leg. Good running as Badoni nudges this to deep square and comes back for the second. This is placed in the midwicket region by Badoni off the backfoot and the batters come back for the second again. Punched to wide long-on by Badoni for a single and Kuldeep ends with 3/20 in 4 overs. He has also left the field right after finishing his bowling quota.

LSG 114/7 in 15 overs

Mukesh comes around the wicket. Full and Arshad clips it off his boots for a single behind square-leg. FOUR! Short and Badoni gloves the pull as the ball runs away for a boundary behind the keeper. FOUR! Cut away hard outside off and the ball flies over the point fielder for consecutive fours. Full and driven by Badoni for a single through cover-point. Arshad gets it past point with the outside half of the willow for one more. Very wide outside off by Mukesh and an extra run for Lucknow. Played with soft hands by Badoni to beat point and come back for a second.

LSG 100/7 in 14 overs

Here comes Arshad Khan. Kuldeep is back. Badoni picks a single first ball of the over with a cut to deep point. Punched back to Kuldeep by Arshad. The left-hander presses forward to defend the next one back to the bowler. Misfield at extra-cover by Stubbs and Arshad will open his account with a couple. Two more next ball as he heaves to wide long-on. Hundred runs up for Lucknow in 14 overs.

LSG 94/7 in 13 overs

Mukesh comes back. He opts for the short stuff. Krunal starts off with a bottom edge off a pull and then Badoni misses a pull as the short one veers down leg-side. Mukesh is very keen and DC goes for the review. There is no bat and neither has he gloved it. DC has lost both reviews.

OUT! The short ball ploy finally pays off. Mukesh bangs it into the pitch from around the wicket and Krunal is cramped for room as he looks to guide it to third man. He gets an edge to the wicketkeeper. Strategic Timeout!

Krunal Pandya c Rishabh Pant b Mukesh Kumar 3 (4b)

LSG 90/6 in 12 overs

Ishant replaces Kuldeep. Which is quite shocking considering LSG will be into its tail if they lose one more wicket. A couple of singles to begin the over. Make it three as Hooda heaves this to long-on. This is wide outside off from Ishant and called wide.

OUT! Hooda goes. He gets a top edge looking to swipe this shortish delivery over deep midwicket. Warner takes it at point. Short ball to greet Krunal and he pulls it away to deep square-leg for a single.

Deepak Hooda c David Warner b Ishant Sharma 10 (13b)

LSG 84/5 in 11 overs

Axar comes for his third over. Badoni turns this away for a single at square-leg. Good stump-to-stump bowling from a good length from Axar Patel. Just four runs from the over.

LSG 80/5 in 10 overs

Kuldeep again. Hooda sweeps this from wide outside off to deep square for a single. Loud appeal for caught behind from Pant as Rahul looks to cut and misses. Pant is confident there was some bat and goes upstairs. OUT! DRS shows a big spike as the ball goes past the bottom of Rahul’s blade. Third one for Kuldeep in two overs. Ayush Badoni is the new man in.

KL Rahul c Rishabh Pant b Kuldeep Yadav 39 (22b 5x4 1x6)

LSG 76/4 in 9 overs

Axar will continue. Hooda starts with a single through mid-off. FOUR! Cut away off the backfoot by Rahul through point for a boundary. Rahul hangs back and places this at long-on for a couple more. Cut away again by Rahul but finds the fielder in the circle on the off this time. This is pushed off the front foot through mid-off for a single by Rahul. Another single to end the over.

LSG 67/4 in 8 overs

Kuldeep Yadav on a hat-trick. Deepak Hooda comes in as Impact Player. De Kock goes out. A slip comes in place for the hat-trick ball. Full outside off and driven away for a single by Hooda. Loud appeal as Rahul misses the paddle sweep. Loud appeal for lbw but DC doesn’t go up this time.

OUT! Stoinis is gone and Kuldeep strikes. Stonis gets a leading edge to the backward point fielder as he looks to heave across the line. OUT! Pooran is bowled first-ball. Kuldeep is on a hat-trick as Pooran looses his off-stump to one that turns away.

Kuldeep into the attack. Starts off by hanging one very wide outside off and Stoinis reaches out and collects a single through extra-cover. One more for Rahul as he flicks this to deep midwicket.

LSG 64/2 in 7 overs

FOUR! Stoinis steps out and drills this down the ground for a boundary. Stoinis misses the next one that slides down leg-side. He was undone by that extra bit of pace.

Axar Patel into the attack. Stoinis gets a single through the leg-side after a couple of dot balls. Heaved away to long-on for one more by Rahul.

Update: Khaleel is off the field

Khaleel Ahmed has gone off the field during the last over after picking two wickets in three overs in the PP.

LSG 57/2 in 6 overs

Single to end the PowerPlay as Stoinis tucks this off his waist on leg-side.

Rahul dabs this late to short third for a single as the ball angles in from a good length.

Pant now comes up to the stumps. Mukesh gets his line right this time. On the stumps and on a length short of a good one. Defended by Rahul. Another dot ball as Rahul drives this to the fielder at cover.

FOUR! Strays down leg-side and whipped away off the hips by Rahul for a boundary at fine-leg. Fifty up for LSG in 5.1 overs. FOUR! Another boundary next ball as Rahul unleashes a classy drive through the cover region after taking a long stride forward.

Final over the PowerPlay. Here comes Mukesh Kumar into the attack.

LSG 47/2 in 5 overs

Bouncer by Khaleel to start with and given wide, Pant will not review this.

OUT! Loud appeal for lbw and the umpire again takes his time to lift the finger as Khaleel persists with his appealing. Padikkal will not review this. This seamed in with the angle from short of a good length and Padikkal was trapped in front.

Marcus Stoinis is the next man in. Dropped first-ball! Stoinis drives this straight back to Khaleel, who fails to hold on to the catch in the follow through.

FOUR! Delectable on-drive by Rahul by Khaleel pitches this one up. This is flicked off the boot to mid-on for a single by Rahul. Stoinis gets a bottom edge that goes to the slip cordon on the bounce. Lucky couple of first balls for the Aussie.

Devdutt Padikkal lbw b Khaleel Ahmed 3 (6b)

LSG 40/1 in 4 overs

Ishant continues. Cut away behind point by Rahul for a single. Sliding down leg-side and called wide. Short of a good length just outside off and Padikkal hops on his toes and defends it back to the bowler. Tucked away off the hips by the left-hander for a couple through the leg-side. Going down leg-side again and another wide from Ishant. Surprisingly, DC has reviewed that call and clearly, that is a wide. Just as DC loses the review, Pant has a chat with the umpire, suggesting that he never reviewed that decision. DC still has lost one review, and is left with just one more.

LSG vs DC - Figure 6

FOUR! Short and wide outside off and Rahul throws the plumbing at it, sending it crashing through cover for a boundary. A couple more to end the over as Rahul punches this to deep point.

LSG 28/1 in 3 overs

SIX! First six of the game as Rahul lofts this one over extra-cover off the first ball of the over as Khaleel continues. On a length on middle and leg and Rahul drops this on the off-side and takes a quick one. FOUR! Full again outside off by Khaleel and De Kock lifts this over extra-cover again for another boundary. De Kock nails the next one down the ground by it crashes straight into the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

OUT! Loud appeal for lbw and the umpire takes his time for lifting the dreaded finger. De Kock goes upstairs after some consultation with Rahul. This was a full ball on middle and leg and De Kock missed it trying to heave it away over midwicket. Replay shows the ball would have hit leg-stump on Umpire’s Call and Delhi has a big breakthrough.

Devdutt Paddikal comes in and pushes a low full toss straight to the mid-off fielder.

Quinton de Kock lbw b Khaleel Ahmed 19 (13b 4x4)

LSG 17/0 in 2 overs

Ishant Sharma from the other end. Good length outside off and Rahul glides it to third man for a single. Beaten! De Kock goes for the pull and misses as this one wasn’t short enough for that shot. This is guided by De Kock straight to the point fielder. De Kock backs away outside leg-stump a bit and but the extra bounce has him pulling only as far as midwicket for a single. Driven down the ground by Rahul for one more. FOUR! In the slot outside off and De Kock lofts this over extra-cover for his first convincing boundary of the day.

LSG 10/0 in 1 over

KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock will expectedly open the innings for Lucknow. The skipper will want some runs under his belt today. Khaleel Ahmed will take the new ball.

A slip and a gully in place. FOUR! Outside edge for De Kock first ball as he slashes hard outside off and the ball flies over the slip fielder for a boundary. Yorker length well outside off next up and De Kock cannot dig it out. Stifled lbw appeal but De Kock gets an inside edge onto his pads as Khaleel brings it back in. Driven through cover-point by the South African next ball for a couple. Angling in again on leg-stump and De Kock fails to whip this off his waist on leg-side.

FOUR! More luck for De Kock as the ball runs away off the inside edge and to the fine-leg boundary. Ten from it but Khaleel didn’t do too much wrong.
