Klopp pays tribute to departing Liverpool quartet

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are back in Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when Unai Emery's Aston Villa travel to Anfield.

The Reds are fifth in the table, one point behind Manchester United in fourth having played a game more. Liverpool will need to beat Villa and Southampton at St Mary's in their final game to keep their realistic hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive.

Villa, meanwhile, have European aspirations of their own. They are eighth in the table, level on points with Tottenham in seventh - the final Europa Conference League spot. If Villa can usurp Spurs, they will end a 13-year exile from European football.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of Saturday afternoon's game...

When is Liverpool vs Aston Villa?

Liverpool will face Villa at Anfield on Saturday, May 20. The game will kick-off at 3pm.

Liverpool have won their last five encounters with Villa in all competitions, including their 3-1 Premier League win at Villa Park on Boxing Day. The West Midlands club have not beaten Klopp's side since their remarkable 7-2 home triumph in October 2020.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa team news

Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are all set to make Klopp's squad for Liverpool's final home game of the season. The quartet will leave the club when their contracts expire next month, with an emotional goodbye expected.

Thiago Alcantara (hip), Stefan Bajcetic (adductor) and Calvin Ramsay (knee) are all out for the rest of the season, while Darwin Nunez is unavailable due to a toe complaint. "Bobby takes the place of Darwin because Darwin will not be available," said Klopp on Friday.

Klopp explained: "Darwin will not be available. It's an inflammation of a tendon at the toe - very painful obviously. He didn't train yet this week, so he will not be available for tomorrow. The long-term injuries are still out but all the rest should be available."

Philippe Coutinho will not get the chance to play against his former club due to an undisclosed injury. The Brazilian will miss the rest of the season. Jed Steer, who will leave Villa Park when his contract expires next month, is also out with a calf issue.

Emery's only other injury concern is Calum Chambers, who has picked up an illness. "Coutinho is still injured, and the other players are ready to play," said Emery on Thursday.

"We’re going to wait for the training session tomorrow morning and if everything is going well, the players available are the same players we had last week. Today Calum Chambers was sick but I think tomorrow he is going to be ready to try to travel with us."
