A slow start did not deter the KZN capital city’s Leicester City Legends from romping to victory in their KZN Legends Ethekwini Over 50’s football league match against home side Pinetown Legends on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from midfielder Thokozani “Maradona” Shandu and forward Mike Williams – who created the first goal before chipping brilliantly from 30 metres out for his successful strike – made the difference in an entertaining clash that might have been a 6-1 triumph instead of just 2-1 had it not been for the superb goalkeeping of Pinetown shot-stopper, Raymond Mollentze.

Leicester City’s Alfred Meintjies, popularly known as “Mango”, who excelled as a box-to-box midfielder in his heyday with Rebels FC, then for Maritzburg United, Maritzburg Ajax and Real Taj, was confident in naming the skilful, tireless midfielder Maradona Shandu as one of his side’s standout performers.

But, said Meintjies,

the Pinetown last line of defence, Raymond Mollentze, was responsible for keeping the final score line as close as it was.

Meintjies said others to shine for Leicester were striker Victor Vertuin and midfielder Cyril “Boboy” Booysen.
