Juventus ultras insult Liverpool at minute 39 of every match as they still haven’t forgotten about the Heysel Stadium disaster where 39 Bianconeri fans died before a Champions League Final against the Reds.

Not many know that Juventus ultras mentions Liverpool in every game, whether it’s played at home or away, but their words are all but friendly.

The most fanatical Bianconeri supporters, in fact, keep insulting the Reds nearly 40 years after the Heysel Stadium disaster, which claimed the lives of 39 Juventus fans before a Champions League Final against Liverpool.

It happened on May 25, 1985, in Brussels. Several Reds’ hooligans broke into a ‘neutral’ section, occupied mainly by Juventus supporters. A wall collapsed, crushing Juventus supporters, causing 39 deaths and leaving many severely injured.

This is why chants against the Reds are made at minute 39 in every match. Juventus ultras can be heard singing ‘I hate Liverpool’ and ‘Who doesn’t jump is a f****** English.’

The youngest victim at the Heysel Stadium was Andrea Casula, 11, who was killed with his father Giovanni, 44. After the tragedy, English clubs were placed under an indefinite ban by UEFA, which was lifted in 1990-91. Liverpool were banned for two more years, later reduced to one.

Juventus pay tribute to the victims on every anniversary with several activities across Turin, while in 2010, 25 years after the disaster, Liverpool unveiled a memorial at Anfield.

Liverpool FC remembers the 39 football fans who lost their lives at Heysel Stadium in Belgium on this day 38 years ago.
