Aston Villa Awaiting Europa Conference League Play-Off Draw
Following their seventh place finish in the Premier League, Aston Villa has qualified for the Europa Conference League play-off stage. However, the club awaits the draw to determine whether they will be seeded or unseeded for the competition. If they are seeded, they will only face unseeded teams in the play-offs.
As it stands, Villa is on the unseeded side of the draw. Sevilla’s victory over Roma in the Europa League final means that the Spanish club qualifies for the Champions League, which impacts Villa’s seeding. According to UEFA rankings, Villa is projected to be unseeded with a coefficient of 21.799.
There are still several scenarios under which Villa could potentially be seeded. CFR 1907 Cluj losing the Romanian UECK play-off finals, Basaksehir losing the Turkish Cup final, and one of the nine teams in the second qualifying round losing are all opportunities for Villa to move up in the rankings. However, there is also a possibility of them moving down if FC Midtjylland wins the Danish European play-offs.
Additionally, there is uncertainty about whether Italian giants Juventus will be included in the competition. They may face a ban from UEFA competitions due to Financial Fair Play violations. The verdict is expected later this month.
The draw for the Europa Conference League play-off stage is set to take place on August 7th, and Villa will learn who they face in order to progress to the group stages of the competition.
