Despite President Cyril Ramaphosa's expressed commitment to fighting corruption, his anti-corruption council remains unfunded and relies on donations to do its work.
BUSINESS
President Cyril Ramaphosa came into office five years ago on an anti-corruption ticket with promises of a new dawn. However, under his government anti-corruption has become a side issue instead of the main issue, according to the anti-corruption body, Corruption Watch.
The President himself has been accused of money laundering following a theft of foreign currency at his Phala Phala farm, which raised questions about the presence of large amounts of foreign currency. The institutions that carried out investigations into the allegations, including the Reserve Bank and the Public Protector have cleared him.
