Villa home in on last 16

Aston Villa’s incredible unbeaten run at home almost stretched to a year before their defeat by Newcastle United last time out at Villa Park brought it to an unexpected end.

That result did not seem to have an impact on Unai Emery’s side who were at their fluent best in a 5-0 win over bottom side Sheffield United at the weekend.

The visit of Chelsea is also the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways on home turf as the Blues have lost both of their games since the 0-0 draw between these sides at Stamford Bridge.

In those defeats, they have shipped four goals against Liverpool at Anfield and another four in a home defeat by mid-table Wolves.

Villa are challenging for a top-four place but Emery has shown he takes cup competitions seriously so his in-form side should win, as they did in the league meeting between the sides in September.

Watkins on a roll

While Ollie Watkins has been a consistent performer for Aston Villa it is fair to say his goals have come in runs of form.

His winner in the aforementioned 1-0 win for Villa at Stamford Bridge began a hot streak of 12 in 16 matches across all competitions.

However, following that, he went six games without finding the net before scoring two in the two games since the fourth-round game against Chelsea.

While he could not stop that game being goalless, the England striker does have two in his last three appearances against the Blues so another tonight would be no surprise.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea tip 2: Ollie Watkins to score any time @ 27/20 with BetMGM

Build on sharp-shot Bailey

The first part of our bet builder includes another in-form Aston Villa man to be involved with Leon Bailey to have at least one shot on target.

The winger is reportedly close to signing a new deal and it would be a just reward for his efforts this season, in which he has registered a goal involvement every 86.9 minutes across all competitions.

The Jamaican also averages 1.06 shots on target every 90 minutes in the Premier League so is likely to have at least one again against a vulnerable Chelsea side.

Malo Gusto is a member of that flimsy Blues back line and the full-back has been booked in half of his last eight appearances.

Bailey, whose speed is difficult to deal with even for the best of defenders, could be directly up against Gusto, leaving the 20-year-old likely to be on the wrong side of the referee.

The final part of our bet builder is for Aston Villa to have over 3.5 corners – something that would have landed in their previous nine matches.

That includes a tally of seven in the game between these two last month and, with Chelsea averaging five corners conceded per game in the Premier League this term, it should fly in tonight.
