Al-Hilal Make Pro League History With Record Win Streak
February 27, (THEWILL) – Al-Hilal made history on Monday evening, with an astounding 14th consecutive victory in the Saudi Pro League. The latest win, a clinical 2-0 defeat of hosts Al-Ettifaq, saw the Riyadh-based side surpass the previous league record of 13 straight triumphs set by rivals Al-Nassr in 2013/2014.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic opened the scoring for the visitors in the 39th minute with a powerful header from a corner. Salem Al Dawsari then doubled Al-Hilal’s advantage on the stroke of half-time, pouncing on a chance inside the box to send the team into the break with a comfortable lead.
The result leaves Al-Hilal an imposing seven points clear atop the league standings with 21 matches played. They have amassed 59 points compared to second-placed Al-Nassr’s 52. Al-Nassr, featuring Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, had beaten Al-Shabab 3-2 just a day earlier.
While it was a night for celebration, the game did end on a slightly sour note for Al-Hilal’s prolific striker Alexander Mitrovic. The league’s leading scorer received a yellow card ruling him out of the next fixture against champions Al-Ittihad due to an accumulation of bookings.
Nevertheless, under acclaimed Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus, Al-Hilal appear firmly on course to reclaim the Saudi crown they last won in 2019/2020. This record-winning streak underlines their dominance this season.
