Electronic visas for foreigners were officially launched today in the Tripoli based Libyan government’s Cabinet Office.

The launch was in the presence of the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, the Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Secretary-General of the Intelligence Service, the President of the General Communications Authority, the Head of the Passports and Nationality Department, and several related department directors in the regions.

The Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs confirmed the possibility of foreigners applying electronically to obtain a visa starting tomorrow, Thursday, praising the efforts and cooperation of the Telecommunications Holding Company, the Passports and Nationality Authority, and the General Information Authority to launch this electronic service, which is the first of its kind in Libya.

May 1 was also announced as the date for launching the electronic visa for expatriate workers being brought to Libya after completing all procedural and legal steps related to the work visa.

It was stressed that this step will eliminate bureaucracy and fraud and contribute to organizing expatriate workers.

The Tripoli government said the project comes within the directives of the Prime Minister to the Passports Authority and the Ministry of Labour and Rehabilitation regarding the necessity of facilitating and organizing the granting of visas, and for them to be electronic.
