West Ham are sixth in the Premier League, two points and two places better off than their rivals for a European place. Brighton kickstarted a memorable 2022-23 campaign with a victory over the Hammers in east London but it is the home team who are catching the eye at the moment.
David Moyes’s side beat Wolves and Manchester United before Christmas and then inflicted a first home league defeat of the season on Arsenal last Thursday, keeping a clean sheet in all three games.
Brighton have struggled for consistency in their recent top-flight matches, winning two, drawing two and losing two of their previous six. You have to go back to September for the most recent instance of them recording back-to-back victories in the league.
They do have the better head-to-head record in this fixture in recent years, winning four times and drawing twice on their previous six visits to face West Ham, but the home side are in good enough form to end that run and extend their own winning sequence.
West Ham vs Brighton tip 1 West Ham to win @ 11/8 with Sky Bet
Busy night for keepersWhile they may have been keeping goals out with relative ease in recent league matches, West Ham are by no means impenetrable, and their recent run of top-flight wins is punctuated by a 5-1 defeat at Liverpool in an EFL Cup quarter-final.
They and Brighton possess two of the leakiest defences in the top half of the table, Brighton’s tally of 33 goals conceded only three higher than the Hammers.
However, both sides have a positive goal difference, which is evidence that their defensive frailties are offset by their attacking qualities.
Backing both teams to score may be too safe a play, with over 3.5 goals offering the greater value for money.
West Ham vs Brighton tip 2 Over 3.5 goals @ 6/4 with Sky Bet
Bowen and bookings in bet builderJarrod Bowen has been a revelation as a central striker this season, with his 11 league goals putting him fifth in the Golden Boot standings and just one goal away from his best ever top-flight return.
Bowen has scored in each of his past two games at the London Stadium, as well as registering one assist in his last three in all competitions at home, so another goal contribution for the England star looks like the perfect way to start Tuesday’s bet builder.
With James Ward-Prowse, the Hammers have looked extremely dangerous from set pieces, as shown when Konstantinos Mavropanos netted from one of the midfielder’s corners against his former club Arsenal last week.
In two of their previous four games at the London Stadium, the Hammers have claimed more than five corners, while Brighton have conceded 18 corners across their three league visits to the capital this season. Five or more corners for the Hammers looks an attractive selection.
Each of the previous two meetings between the sides has produced at least three yellow cards, and Edson Alvarez and Emerson both are just one booking away from topping the Premier League’s yellow card table, with seven cautions apiece.
Backing 50+ booking points (a caution is worth 10 and red card counts for 25) looks a good way to round off our bet builder.
