Careers: Performance Analyst Internship
Watford Football Club has Performance Analyst Internship placement positions available for the 2023/24 football season. The successful applicants will work in a fast-paced, demanding elite environment.
These placements are only for current undergraduate students studying a sport or equivalent degree, who are looking for a work placement opportunity within the field of performance analysis. The roles will be unpaid, however expenses will be covered. Please note, we cannot accept applicants who have finished or are finishing their studies this year.
Main duties of the internship will consist of:
• To film and capture games, training and other content including individual training
• To assist with performance analysis, assisting with the daily workflow as well as supporting training and matchday analysis
• Update video and statistical databases weekly
• Support all aspects of pre & post-match - team and individual analysis
• Assist in departmental projects, also combining and researching relevant academic literature
• Provide additional support to the first-team as directed
The placements are full-time, however working hours will vary depending on the fixture list of all teams. Please note, evening and weekend hours will be required.
Applicants should ideally be based local to London Colney or the surrounding area, and be a UK resident or non-UK resident with a valid UK work permit.
You must have:
• Studying towards a degree in football or sport and/or equivalent with a placement year
• Understanding of football coaching, tactics and game management
• Interest and passion for analysis of football
• Ability to commit for the 2023/24 season
• Full UK driving licence or ability to travel to various locations due to the demands of the role
• Understanding of the club’s commitment to EDI & Safeguarding
You would ideally have, but not vital:
• Experience of analysis software
• Experience of Tableau, R or Python
• Experience of working within a football environment
Person specification:
• Extremely motivated individual and passionate about analysis of football
• Confident in working individually and together as part of a team
• A good knowledge and experience of working within a football environment
• Ability to offer innovative ideas, efficiently problem solve, make decisions and be comfortable working under pressure within strict time frames
• A good knowledge of tactical and technical aspects of football and game understanding
• Excellent computer literacy
• High organisational skills and sharp eye for detail
• Demonstrate relevant additional qualifications/courses
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
