USA vs Canada

The United States Men’s National Team hit the field this afternoon as they take on Canada in the first of their fall friendlies. The USMNT are once again in a state of transition, with an interim coach in Mikey Varas and a roster that has some new faces and some hoping to vault into the core of the national team.

The World Cup is less than two years away, and with rumors swirling over whether Mauricio Pochettino will take over as head coach, the team still has a job to do in these friendlies. The theme of this camp has been moving forward, as the program wants to leave the past in the past and proceed with a new vigor and sense of urgency. There are some players who hope to leave their mark in this window with their play with some regulars out due to injury and much needed rest. They also want to place some importance on a fall window that feels like the beginning of a fresh reset for the program.

They go up against Canada, a team led by Jesse Marsch who are fresh off a surprise run to fourth place in the 2024 Copa América but who also needed to win a playoff back in March to make that tournament. Jesse Marsch, who still feels the sting of not getting the USMNT coaching job back in 2023, clearly wants to stick it to the federation with a win over the United States. The USMNT want to press on, hoping this can be the start of turning over a new leaf.
