Golden oldies set URC record in Cape Town
The Vodacom URC clash between the DHL Stormers and Edinburgh will see veteran props Brok Harris and WP Nel break a tournament record.
Harris was named to start at loosehead prop for the DHL Stormers for the match in Cape Town on Saturday.
The 39-year-old will be up against 37-year-old former DHL Western Province tighthead Nel, who will earn his 200th cap for Edinburgh.
The two front rowers have a combined age of 77 years, which makes them the oldest opposing starting props in the Vodacom URC’s history.
The previous record was set in 2014 by Duncan Bell (Dragons) and Salvatore Perugini (Zebre), who had a combined age of 75 years.
WP Nel and Brok Harris go head to head in Cape Town in the @URCOfficial tomorrow, a combined age of almost 77 years! The oldest starting opposing props in the championship’s history. Previously, it was 75 yrs by Duncan Bell (Dragons) v Salvatore Perugini (Zebre) in March 2014.
