During the eventful festive season, Chatsworth Centre held the highly competitive ‘Battle of the DJs’ competition, which was sponsored by the Chatsworth Centre, the DJ Association of South Africa, Razaaks Sound and Lighting, and Oriental Lighting.

Talented and artistic Merebank resident, 18-year-old Thiara Naidoo, who goes by the stage name of DJ Law-T, participated and much to her surprise and that of the other competitors, won the competition. She was the youngest and only female to enter and win.

“At first, I didn’t think I would win since I was the only female there, but my family and friends motivated me, and when I made it to the finals, I was ecstatic and even became more motivated to win. I practiced every day, day and night until I reached victory. When I eventually won the competition, I was so happy that all my hard work paid off and I was even more determined to grow in my DJ career,” said the thrilled young lady.

Speaking about where her passion for being a DJ started and how she chose her stage name, she stated that she was passionate about music from a young age.

“After all, music is food for the soul. I decided my stage name would be DJ Law-T because I’m currently studying law at UKZN. I’m now a second-year student. Most people are shocked or amazed at how I lead a balanced life so that I can be a law student by day and a DJ by night. I want to encourage others to always follow their dreams. You can achieve anything you put your mind to, and you have to have passion and love for everything you do. If you can dream it, you can achieve I,” she added.

After winning the competition, she went on to play at multiple Bollywood events at Emakhosini Boutique Hotel and CubaBLK.

“I am now one of the resident DJs at Cuba Lounge and have my mobile disco, Disco TNT. I hope to grow in the club industry as well,” she added enthusiastically. She can be contacted on 072-388-3673.
