UFC 283

In front of friends and family, the ageless Glover Teixeira will look to become a two-time UFC light-heavyweight champion at UFC 283 on January 21. In his way is Jamahal Hill, who is ready to make the most out of this opportunity.

UFC 283 takes place inside Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The UFC light heavyweight title is currently vacant. Jiri Prochazka relinquished the belt due to injury. Magomed Ankalaev fought Jan Blachowicz at UFC 282 for the belt but the fight was called a split decision draw.

Teixeira made his pro debut in 2002. The Brazilian won the UFC light heavyweight title in 2021 against Blachowicz but lost it in June 2022 against Prochazka. A rematch against the latter was supposed to happen at UFC 282 before Prochazka’s injury.

With enough time to prepare for Hill, Teixeira, 43, is ready to give it his all. Not ready to give up on his career just yet, Teixeira wants to be king of the mountain again.

“The opportunity to fight for the title in Brazil is here, and I’m embracing it,” Teixeira told UFC.com. “I am happy. I’m just gonna go over there and win the belt in my home country... Last time, I was this close (holding his thumb and index finger a fraction of an inch apart. “I lost, it was a learning experience, and now I’m going to go get it back.”

Hill turned pro in 2017. A Dana White's Contender Series alum, Hill started with the UFC in 2019. He is on a three-fight win streak. Hill's last fight was a TKO win against Thiago Santos in August.

Ranked seventh in the UFC’s light heavyweight rankings, Hill respects Teixeira’s skills. However, the 31-year-old believes he has what it takes to take down Brazil’s favorite son.

“I think he’s an OG, man,” Hill told Yahoo Sports. "He’s dangerous. He’s got good hands. He’s got a really good ground game. He’s got good jiu jitsu. He’s got good wrestling. He’s formidable everywhere. He can give you problems and give you fits everywhere and that's what I like to test myself against. He’s been at the top of the game for a while, but I just think it's my time.”
