UFC 283: Glover Teixeira vs. Jamahal Hill: Live updates, results ...
An Octagon-side physician checks on Figueiredo's eye between rounds and it's practically shut. He calls for it to be over and that's it!! Brandon Moreno is the new undisputed flyweight champion and he does it by TKO.
Figueiredo vs. Moreno 4; Round 3There's that overhand right again from Moreno. Figueiredo has got to watch out for that. Moreno just seems like the sharper fighter thus far. A left hand partially lands for Moreno. Lunging swing and a miss for Moreno. Huge left lands flush for Moreno and Figueiredo grabs his eye! He's busted open and in pain. Announcers say that their replay shows the flush punch that landed but claim that an eyepoke might have been at fault for Figueiredo grabbing his eye. Anyhow, Moreno has top position and is raining down with punches, including a huge left! He's asserting his will on Figueiredo but must watch out for a triangle attempt. Under two minutes in the round. Moreno wriggles free and rains down with some hard punches. Figueiredo responds with some heel kicks. Moreno weaves through that traffic and continues to try to land heavy hands. Moreno continues to pile on ground control time. Dominant round for Moreno. Replay shows that Moreno did land the heavy punch and poked Figueiredo in the eye during the follow through. However, the poke was on the other side of Figueiredo's face. So he grabbed the eye that Moreno punched. Any way you slice it, Figueiredo is in trouble. (10-9 Moreno, 30-27 Moreno)
Figueiredo vs. Moreno 4; Round 2A quick flurry from Moreno but Figueiredo manufactures his own takedown in traffic. He has Moreno stacked up against the Octagon fence but Moreno scrambles back up to his feet. Leg kick from Figueiredo connects but Moreno lands a one-two. Uppercut lands for Figueiredo but Moreno presses forward unfazed. Left-left-right lands for Moreno but Figueiredo counters with a right. Halfway through the round. Figueiredo grazes Moreno upstairs. Moreno with another takedown but Figueiredo reverses it. Figueiredo jumps up and traps Moreno in a guillotine attempt. He's got it cinched in! But Moreno pops his head out and is on top of Figueiredo. Closer round but Moreno takes this one, too. (10-9 Moreno, 20-18 Moreno)
Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno 4; Round 1Moreno shoots and gets a takedown within the first 30 seconds. A whipping overhand right lands for Moreno. Moments later, he adds a body kick. They exchange fire briefly after that. Moreno is doing a good job timing his counters early. Moreno lands an elbow off the break and then pieces Figueiredo up with a combo. Moreno shoots and lands his second takedown of the round, although Figueiredo grabs hold of his foot. He's going for a heel lock and has it cinched in pretty tight. But time runs out for the round. (10-9 Moreno)
Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno 4 co-main is moments awayHow did we get here? Their December 2020 clash ended in a majority draw, setting up the rematch which Moreno won by third-round submission (rear-naked choke) six months later. That sparked the trilogy, which Figueiredo claimed via unanimous decision. And now it all comes down to this to finally end this rivalry with Figueiredo's flyweight world championship at stake.
Gilbert Burns makes it a marvelous homecomingSurgical stuff from Burns, who peppers Magny with a right hand before cinching in a quick body lock and lifting the American off his feet and down to the canvas. Once there, Burns used timely, stiff punches to flatten Magny out before trapping him in a head and arm choke to get the first-round submission.
Overpowering output from Burns who should see a climb up the welterweight rankings from No. 5.
During his post-fight interview, Burns warns the rest of the division that he'll be back in the Octagon very soon and that he'll finish everybody, specifically calling out Colby Covington.
Rio de Janeiro native Gilbert Burns tries to bounce back from a unanimous decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev in a 2022 thriller which was deemed "Fight of the Night." Neil Magny is coming off a submission victory over Daniel Rodriguez in November. Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno 4 in the co-main event will follow with Figueiredo's flyweight world title on the line.
Andrade dominates toward unanimous decisionAfter three painful rounds, Andrade bulldozes her way to a unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25 and 30-26).
That third round was especially excruciating to watch. I don't know what was keeping the referee from ending the bout as Andrade delivered a deluge of unanswered shots and Murphy sustained too much damage. She took a beating that just wasn't necessary as this one should have ended at the end of the second round or within the opening minute of the third — the latest.
Murphy is eating so many shots, including a multiple-punch combination to end the second round. Andrade has dished so much damage and Murphy is proving to be too tough for her own good. Andrade has produced two 10-8 rounds and I'm honestly surprised that Murphy's team didn't elect to end it before the third round.
Dominant first round for AndradeThe recipe for the opening five minutes was simple: Andrade used stiff leg kicks to create the opening to piece Murphy up with thunderous punches. Even when Murphy managed to take her down, Andrade quickly sprung back to her feet. She leaves Murphy bruised and bloody in the face with a swollen lead leg. Andrade was in such a zone that she even resorted to two switch front kicks that landed. Oof!
Flyweight action on deckLauren Murphy is moments away from taking on former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade. The winner will certainly inch herself closer to a possible shot against flyweight world titleholder Valentina Shevchenko.
Congrats to Jose Aldo Walker gets first-round TKO in Rio de JaneiroJohnny Walker is a wild man!
He went for a front kick but Craig caught it. No worries for Walker who blasts Craig across the jaw with a slashing, piercing right hand. He adds two more punches to the head to drop Craig before pounding him with hammerfists until the ref calls an end to it just 2:16 into the first round. Electric finish!
"I'm a guy who could generate power from anywhere," Walker says in the Octagon fresh off the victory.
Damn right.
The Brazilian native returns to the Octagon to take on Paul Craig in light heavyweight action to launch this pay-per-view. Walker snapped a two-fight skid with a first-round submission (rear-naked choke) of Ion Cuțelaba in September.
It's go time! This UFC 283 pay-per-view main card is live! The prelims just ended with Ihor Potieria knocking out Mauricio Rua in the first round. And "Shogun" officially calls it a career afterwards.
