UEFA Europa League: Porto frustrated; Rangers, Athletic Club, Lyon ...
Athletic Club and Lyon were comfortable winners in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday in the early kick-offs, with Porto and Anderlecht playing out a back-and-forth draw and AZ Alkmaar scraping a point against Galatasaray.
Rangers picked up an incredible 4-1 win against Nice away in France, and Tottenham's 2-2 draw with Roma ensured the Scots edged into the top eight.
Ajax were also unable to solidify their hopes of qualifying and put themselves in danger of dropping out of the top eight with a 2-0 loss to Real Sociedad. Bundesliga contenders Eintracht Frankfurt beat Midtjylland 2-1 to hold onto third.

RANGERS SPRING FOUR-GOAL SURPRISE IN NICE
Rangers stormed their way to an unexpected 4-1 win away at Nice. Hamza Igamane scored twice after Vaclav Cerny and Mohamed Diomande added the first and second goals.
Rangers now sit in the top eight with 10 points from five games and have huge clashes with Tottenham and Manchester United up next in Europe.
HOJLUND STRIKES TWICE IN UNITED WIN
Ruben Amorim won his Old Trafford debut as Manchester United beat Bodo/Glimt 3-2 thanks to a double from Rasmus Hojlund.
Alejandro Garnacho stunned the visitors with a goal in the first minute, only for the Norwegian outfit to hit back with a four-minute salvo of goals and take the lead, leaving Hojlund to save the day with goals either side of half-time.
HUMMELS SPOILS SPURS' PARTY WITH LATE EQUALISERS
Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs missed out on the chance to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the Round of 16 with a 2-2 draw against Roma.
Son Heung-min fired in the opener from the penalty spot before Evan Ndicka levelled the scoring. Welsh winger Brennan Johnson found the net in the 33rd minute with his ninth goal of the season. It looked like Johnson had found the winger until Roma defender Mats Hummels equalised in added time.
Athletic Club stay in mix at top
Athletic Club picked up three important points to put them in second place in the league phase table, sitting behind Lazio on goal difference alone.
Adama Boiro opened the scoring with his first goal for the club and on his Europa League debut in a move straight off the training ground. The left-back picked up on Gorka Guruzeta's flick-back after Nico Williams' short corner, and comfortably dispatched it into the back of the net.
Benat Prados doubled their lead with Williams having yet another hand in the goal. The winger jinked down the left-hand side to find space at the byline, and Prados headed home from the ensuing cross.
Guruzeta and Boiro then linked up again for the third goal of the night. The full-back chested the ball past a slipping Timothy Ouma before delivering a cut-back to Guruzeta to tie up the win.
Porto miss vital three points in Brussels
Porto missed out on a vital three points as they seek to solidify a place in the knockout phase play-offs. They saw their lead overturned twice in a 2-2 draw with Belgian side Anderlecht, who themselves missed out on a win that would have consolidated their place in the top eight.
The only goal of the first half came the way of the visitors after Belgian winger Tristan Degreef conceded a penalty with a stray boot hitting Francisco Moura. Galeno then dutifully stepped up and buried the penalty into the corner.
Degreef redeemed himself shortly into the second half as his team jumped on a big mistake by the Porto defence. Pepe was caught on the edge of his own box by Mats Rits, who slid a simple pass to Degreef to hit it first time and level matters.
A flurry late in the game saw Porto reclaim the lead through Fabio Vieira, only for Francis Amuzu to cancel it out three minutes later in the 86th minute.
Lyon land four-goal win
Lyon left Azerbaijan with three points, which sees them slip into the top eight, at least for now.
Georges Mikautadze gave Lyon the lead within a quarter of an hour with a well-worked goal on the counter. Rayan Cherki comfortably strolled through Qarabag's midfield after Lyon won back possession, slipping the ball wide to Ernest Nuamah, who laid it on a plate for the Georgian striker.
Qarabag were surprisingly dominant in the second half until Lyon scored twice in quick succession 20 minutes into the second half.
Corentin Tolisso fired an incredible shot that left Qarabag's Mateusz Kochalski rooted to the spot, and just five minutes later Malick Fofana met Said Benrahma's cross to extend their lead to three.
Mikautadze scored his second of the night, and his club's fourth and final, with a beautiful chip over Kochalski. A wild end to the game unfolded as Qarabag's Juninho missed a penalty by hitting the post, only for it to rebound off goalkeeper Luca Perri and bounce in for a consolation goal.
Elsewhere, Galatarasy and AZ Alkmaar scraped a point each in their clash at the AFAS stadium. Victor Osimhen almost found the winner with a header in injury time, only for VAR to judge him to be offside.
Lazio were unable to consolidate their lead at the top of the table after labouring to a 0-0 draw with Ludogorets, meaning the Italians missed out on winning five Europa League games on the bounce, largely due to some superb defending from the Bulgarians.
Dutch giants Ajax suffered a hit to their hopes of standing firm in the top eight with a 2-0 loss to Real Sociedad, while Bundesliga contenders Eintracht Frankfurt beat Midtjylland 2-1 to reinforce their place in the top three of the table.
