Which English teams have won the UEFA Champions League ...
There are few better feelings in football than winning a trophy on the European stage.
From Manchester United's Busby Babes in 1968 to David Moyes' heroic Hammers just over a year ago, English teams have given us some truly iconic triumphs in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
Since the first European Cup final in 1955/56, some of England's finest teams, players and managers have attempted to make their mark in European competitions.
Here are the sides that were successful.
Champions League
Manchester United won England's first Champions League, then known as the European Cup, with a 4-1 triumph over Benfica in 1968.
Not to be outdone though, rivals Liverpool currently lead the way as the English team with the most victories.
The Reds won their first of six European crowns in 1977 with a 3-1 win over German side Borussia Monchengladbach, following that up a year later with a 1-0 victory in a closely-fought final against Club Brugge.
That was the start of a golden era for English teams in the competition.
Brian Clough's famous Nottingham Forest side won the next two editions of the European Cup, beating Malmo and Hamburg in 1979 and 1980.
Liverpool were back for more in 1981, beating European giants Real Madrid 1-0 to win their third European Cup and England's fifth on the bounce.
Aston Villa joined the party in 1982, stunning German giants Bayern Munich with a 1-0 victory to make it six consecutive wins for English sides.
The 1983 final was the first without any English representation since 1976, but Liverpool did win their fourth a year later, defeating Roma on penalties.
However, an English side would not lift that famous trophy again until 1999, when Sir Alex Ferguson's treble winners pulled off one of the most famous comebacks ever to beat Bayern Munich 2-1 in Barcelona.
If any comeback could supplant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's stoppage-time magic in the minds of the British public, it would be Istanbul.
Liverpool took their tally up to five in 2005 as Steven Gerrard helped Rafael Benitez's side come back from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan 3-2 on penalties.
This renaissance for English sides in Europe culminated in 2008 in Moscow, where Chelsea captain John Terry slipped during a decisive penalty shoot-out to hand the Red Devils their third Champions League crown.
However, Terry would not have to wait long to lift the trophy.
The defender famously donned full Chelsea kit despite not playing a minute of their dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Bayern Munich in the final in 2012.
Seven years later, Liverpool would make it six in another all-English affair, beating Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid to cement their place as the country's kings of European competitions.
Chelsea won their second title in 2021, upsetting favourites Manchester City with a 1-0 win in Porto, but Pep Guardiola's side did reach the summit in 2023, beating Inter Milan 1-0 to lift the Champions League for the first time.
Europa League
Tottenham beat Wolves over two legs to lift the first edition of the Europa League, then known as the UEFA Cup, in 1972.
Liverpool made it two from two for English sides a year later, poetically beating Borussia Monchengladbach, who they defeated to lift their first Champions League.
They once again beat Club Brugge to win their second in 1976 before Ipswich Town got the better of AZ Alkmaar in 1981.
Tottenham edged past Anderlecht on penalties to win their second title in 1984 but an English side would not win the competition again until 2001.
Delfi Geli scored the golden goal as Liverpool defeated Deportivo Alaves 5-4 (a.e.t/g.g) in a thriller in Dortmund to end the drought.
Chelsea were 2-1 winners against Benfica as they won their first Europa League in 2012, and Manchester United lifted the trophy for the first time in 2017 after beating Ajax 2-0.
The trophy returned to Stamford Bridge in 2019 after Chelsea dispatched Arsenal 4-1 in another all-English final.
Conference League
West Ham won the second edition of the Conference League, beating Serie A side Fiorentina 2-1 in Prague in 2023.
'I couldn't go full Mourinho!' - Moyes after West Ham end 43-year wait for major trophy
Roma and Olympiacos are the other two winners of a competition that began in 2021/22.
