Tyla wins big at MTV EMAs with Aaliyah-inspired Y2k look
Tyla is unstoppable at the moment. The R&B-Afropop sensation was nominated in four categories overall at the MTV EMAs and took home prizes for Best Afrobeats Act, Best African Act and Best R&B Act.
In the R&B category, Tyla faced stiff competition from Kehlani, SZA, Tinashe, Usher and Victoria Monét, emerging victorious, and proving why she’s a trailblazer of her genre.
Tyla also stunned in an Aaliyah-inspired look that paid tribute to the Roberto Cavalli dress worn to the 2000 VMAs. With hair and styling taken straight out of that time, Tyla is more than just a trailblazer – she’s a trendsetter.
In this new wave of Afro-culture that is sweeping the world, Tyla is our fearless spokeswoman, our magnetic superstar, and she deserves all her flowers.
