The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande says he is aware of the reports of Trinity International Bible University awarding a celebrity being an honorary doctorate.
Nzimande’s remarks come after actor and playwright, Sello Maake ka Ncube received an honorary doctorate from Trinity International Bible University.
Maake ka Ncube shared some images on his X (former Twitter) timeline.
In a statement, Nzimande says the respective University is not registered.
“According to our records as the Department of Higher Education and Training, Trinity International Bible University is not a registered private higher education institution.
“Trinity International Bible University is therefore not authorised to offer any qualifications, including honorary degrees,” he said.
He adds that the Higher Eduaction Department has reached out to the said University.
“We also wish to state that, as the Department, we have written to Trinity International University before and warned them about continuing to operate illegally and for them to regularise their operations,” Nzimande confirmed.
