During proceedings in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester delivered an emotional plea to the presiding judge, highlighting the severe restrictions and challenges he claims to have faced in mounting an effective defence.
Bester appeared alongside his lover, Dr Nandipha Magudumana, and seven other accused - Magudumana's father, Zolile Sekeleni, their gardener, Zanda Moyo, and prison officials Frans Makhotsa, Senohe Matsoara, Buti Masukela, Teboho Lipholo, and Joel Maketha.
The accused face charges of fraud, corruption, violating a corpse, defeating the end of justice, arson and aiding, and assisting a prisoner to escape.
