The draw left Matsatsantsa placed fourth on the league standings - a point behind second-placed Orlando Pirates. The Tshwane giants will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in a league clash on March 12.

AmaZulu, on the other hand, remained 10th on the league standings - level on points with eighth-placed TS Galaxy. The KwaZulu-Natal heavyweights will lock horns with Sekhukhune United in a Nedbank Cup Last 16 clash on March 14.

Usuthu broke the deadlock 18 minutes into the match by Victor Letsoalo. The former Bloemfontein Celtic striker beat goalkeeper Ricardo Goss with a decent finish after connecting with Augustine Mulenga's lovely cross.

The visitors did not sit back after taking the lead as Goss was forced to deny Mondli Mbanjwa in the 26th minute. The score was 1-0 to AmaZulu during the halftime break with Letsoalo having scored his first goal of the season.

Matsatsantsa pushed for the equalising goal after the restart with coach Gavin Hunt having introduced Tendamudzimu Matodzi and Keenan Bezuidenhout. Parity was restored in the 74th minute with Lyle Lakay scoring a stunning goal to make it 1-1.

The two teams then searched for the winning goal in the latter stages of the match with coach Pablo Franco Martin having introduced Junior Dion and Hendrick Ekstein. However, it never came and ultimately, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
