Teboho Mokoena and Themba Zwane

Mamelodi Sundowns have secured the future of two key players with the announcement of contract extensions for Teboho Mokoena and Themba Zwane.

The duo, who have been pivotal in the Tshwane giants’ recent domestic success and the club’s rise as a continental powerhouse, have extended their stays in Tshwane.

Zwane, the talismanic attacking midfielder, has extended his stay at Sundowns by one year, the club announced on Saturday, 10 August 2024. The Bafana Bafana international has been the heartbeat of Sundowns’ attacking play. He has amassed over 400 appearances, scored 80 goals and provided 59 assists.

His contributions have been instrumental in securing multiple trophies for Sundowns. These include seven league titles and the prestigious 2016 CAF Champions League crown. Captain Zwane has been at Chloorkop since 2011. He joined the club from amateur outfit Vardos FC.

“We are delighted to announce that our captain, Themba Zwane, has signed a 1-year extension with The Brazilians.”

Themba Zwane TEBOHO MOKOENA SIGN FIVE-YEAR DEAL WITH SUNDOWNS

Mokoena, a rock at the heart of the Sundowns midfield, has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.

Since joining Sundowns from SuperSport United in 2022, Mokoena has been a revelation. His defensive prowess, attacking instincts, a knack for long-range goals, and good passing ability have been pivotal to the PSL champions’ success.

“We are delighted to confirm that midfielder Teboho Mokoena has signed a contract extension until 2029,” reads the club statement. The 27-year-old Bafana Bafana midfielder’s new contract comes after media reports linked him with lucrative offers from the Gulf region.

At Sundowns, Mokoena has already established himself as a leader, captaining the side on several occasions. He has made 92 appearances, contributing with nine goals and seven assists.

Both Mokoena and Zwane have added individual accolades to their impressive resumes, having each been crowned PSL Footballer of the Season.
