10-Man Sundowns Beat AmaZulu - iDiski Times
10-men Mamelodi Sundowns maintained their three point lead at the top of the Betway Premiership standings with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Tuesday afternoon.
Khuliso Mudau had an opportunity to give his side the lead inside the opening four minutes but sliced his effort from close range into the stands.
In the ninth minute, Aubrey Modiba found himself in some space outside the box but his shot at goal was deflected out for a corner.
Teboho Mokoena then gave it a chance with a dangerous ball from his trademark set piece in the 18th minute, but AmaZulu did well to clear the danger in their box.
A minute later, Mokoena unleashed a shot from range which forced Richard Ofori to make a good save down low to deny him the opener.
Usuthu came close to taking the lead in the 26th minute but Rushine De Reuck’s vital block at the back denied the home side the goal-scoring opportunity.
Kobamelo Kodisang with an industrious run down the wing then chipped in the ball but the AmaZulu defence was quick to react and clear their lines in the 36th minute.
The visitors were dealt a huge blow when captain Ronwen Williams was sent for an early shower in the 65th minute for handling the ball outisde his area.
Despite being a man down, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 89th minute through Iqraam Rayners to give Sundowns a 1-0 lead and the maximum points.
