Steve Komphela takes over Swallows head coaching role

Steve Komphela has left the DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns to take over as Swallows head coach from Musa Nyatama.

Nyatama, who had been appointed as a head coach a few weeks ago, will assist the 56-year-old tactician along with Ditheko Mototo.

Komphela will begin his duties next week at the Dube Birds.

“Swallows FC is thrilled to announce the appointment of Coach Steve Komphela as the Head Coach of Swallows FC,” reads Swallows’ statement.

“He will be assisted by Musa Nyatama together with Ditheko Mototo. ‘We want to take Swallows FC to the next level and we are very excited to have attracted the services of Coach Komphela.

“We appreciate the professional manner in which Mamelodi Sundowns FC managed these negotiations, Coach Musa Nyatama remains a special pillar of our team and his willingness to learn and work closer with an experienced Coach like Steve Khompela is highly appreciated.

“The two Coaches met last night to celebrate Coach Komphela s birthday and they were both excited to work together and take Swallows FC to higher levels.

“The Coach will be formally introduced to the Swallows FC family on Tuesday, 4th July 2023.”

“Mamelodi Sundowns today expressed its best wishes to Steve Komphela on his appointment asthe Head Coach of Swallows FC,” reads Sundowns’ statement.

“The Chairman of Mamelodi Sundowns, Tlhopie Motsepe said: ‘Steve Komphela servedMamelodi Sundowns with loyalty and devotion and will always be a member of the MamelodiSundowns Family. We wish him everything of the best.’“Mamelodi Sundowns is currently busy with its pre-season and will travel to Rustenburg in thecoming week.”
