Squid Game

Although the reality show "Squid Game: The Challenge" was released Wednesday, don't expect to see Season 2 of the initial "Squid Game" series released until at least late 2024.Associated Press

The Korean Netflix drama “Squid Game” became a popular series in the U.S. and around the world for its commentary on capitalism and its gory nature where competitors put their lives on the line by playing children’s games.

The series became so popular that an American reality show spin-off was created called “Squid Game: The Challenge” where 456 players compete in games inspired by the original show (minus the deaths of course) for the chance to win $4.56 million.

The reality show, which was released Wednesday on Netflix, was met with reactions from fans who wanted to know if and when a season 2 for the original “Squid Game” series would be premiering.

Here’s what you need to know.

When will “Squid Game” season 2 be released?

Netflix announced in June 2022 that there would be a second season of “Squid Game.”

However, there has yet to be an official release date, and production began in late 2023. So it is safe to say that the season probably won’t be released until at least 2024 or later.

Who will be in the “Squid Game” season 2 cast?

Although many cast members will not return for season 2, the main character Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), aka Player 456 will return. The Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun), Hwang Jun Ho (played by Wi Ha-joon) and Gong Yoo will also be returning to the show.

There will also be a laundry list of new cast members joining the show, which Netflix announced in June 2022.
