South Africans are proving once again that no challenge is too big for a laugh, as SPAR’s new comedic video, “Paris Impossible,” brings the nation’s unstoppable spirit and legendary sense of humour to life while cheering on our athletes from afar.

Johannesburg, South Africa (12 September 2024) – There’s no denying it—South Africans are known for having one of the best senses of humour in the world. Whether it’s turning challenges into jokes or finding light in the darkest moments, our people have a unique way of bringing a smile to everyone’s face.

And now, SPAR is celebrating that legendary South African spirit with a new video that is sure to leave you in stitches.

SPAR has released a hilarious new video titled “Paris Impossible.” The video features two loveable characters, Lenny (played by Themba Robin) and Boetie (played by Andre Oberholzer), who spent all their time during the Paralympics on an outrageous mission to deliver care packages filled with iconic South African products to our athletes.

Lenny and Boetie are determined to bring a little bit of home to Paris, but as you can imagine, it’s no easy feat. With countless plans falling apart and Lenny on the verge of giving up, Boetie comes up with a brilliantly simple idea: use SPAR2U, SPAR’s delivery app.

Although SPAR doesn’t actually deliver internationally, the video plays with this idea in the most comical way, showing the lengths South Africans will go to support their own, all while bringing in a good laugh.

“’Paris Impossible’ is a tribute to international sporting events and the grit and determination of our stellar athletes, all with a distinctly local flavour,” says The SPAR Group.

“South African expats and those on extended stays away always miss South African products, so we wanted to get some to them—a taste from home delivered by SPAR2U. The video aims to capture hearts and laughs across the nation, while encouraging South Africans to rally behind our all our athletes with the same enthusiasm they showed during the games a few weeks ago.”

SPAR’s support doesn’t end with the video. The brand has a proud history of backing South African athletes, especially women in sports. From sponsoring South African netball to supporting female runners, SPAR’s dedication to our athletes is unwavering. Many of these incredible sportswomen will be coming back from their international games to participate in the SPAR Women’s Race in Johannesburg on 6 October.

So, why not join in on the fun? Cheer on our athletes, celebrate their incredible achievements, and, like Lenny and Boetie, discover the convenience and magic of SPAR2U. After all, there’s nothing quite like a bit of humour and a lot of heart to bring South Africans together, no matter where they are in the world.
