From My Diary: "Ramaphosa Golden Unicorn To Battered South ...

South Africa

The country has been on tenterhooks for a while but it can be said that racial tensions have been building around the issues of inequality, the poor, the needy, the excluded, the marginalised, the haves (white, coloured, black and Indian Liberals) and the have nots. Those that live in the rural outlying areas of Kwazulu Natal have been mourning the loss of their sovereign King amid spats and interference not from the regent or incumbent but family members and so another royal saga continues in the courts of law. In Gauteng there has been dispute after dispute in political circles that is threatening to tear this nation apart. President Cyril Ramaphosa is keeping it together while holding back the years.

This stalwart has showed his mettle as he has come under fire while navigating this hellish territory of insurrection, failed coup and the pandemic all at once. Last night in his address he spoke of lofty ideals. Democratic values, social justice and fundamental human rights has become the credo of this super alpha leader of substance. He has left his mark on the office of the president. With the incumbent Julius Malema standing, biding his time like a hungry lion waiting in the wings, waiting also for his share of the spoils. Today the unrest has died down as the citizens of South Africa regain their senses and push towards another tomorrow.

One filled with hope and a little bit of the legacy that ex-president Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela left behind. This is all CODESA’s fault Winnie Madikizela-Mandela would have said. Many young people would agree with that statement, especially the millennial generation. Although I am not sure if the kids of today even understand what the TRC Hearings were all about or the evil legacy of the Apartheid mastermind Hendrik Verwoerd. Businesses are in need of relief and technical support. It is Africa’s leaders now who will look to South Africa now as the architecture and infrastructure of corruption is dismantled, sabotaged and ultimately destroyed.

In all of this President Ramaphosa seems to have been led by his sheer mettle and instinct. No doubt tears must have been cried in private away from public view. Each chosen one has led the development of the African nation. Ex-president Thabo Mbeki was ensconced in diplomacy and international relations with his law degree from Sussex University while ex-president Jacob Zuma was beloved by his people (the commoners and the working classes). Little is known about the incumbent CIC Julius Malema. (Commander in Chief as if you didn’t know) who broke away from the ANC eight years ago to spearhead his own party and to campaign for land rights for the indigenous people of South Africa. He nearly got it right to take over the country during the Economic Freedom Front’s first elections.

Remember when the headlines read, “The country is now stable while still experiencing lockdown Level 4 and a curfew from 10 at night until 4 in the morning. Think of this winter (the coldest on record) and how it must have affected the poor, hungry and excluded citizens.” The army would have been better off handing out blankets and warm soup. Let us not forget that the South African army was deployed to Angola as well. We may as well ask what was happening there. So far excised taxes are now depending on sector interventions and the economic reconstruction and recovery plan of the country is now firmly in place.

All you have to do now Mr President is protect millions of jobs. Beware those who are found guilty of extortion or that threaten and engage in violence. You will feel the mighty arm of the law.

We must look now to the social partners of South Africa to act. The will of the people have spoken. What President Cyril Ramaphosa has taught me is this.

Have a passion for what you are doing.

In life, everything tends to happen ‘overnight’. We have heard of the term ‘overnight successes’. Have a passion for what you are doing and you will never go wrong. Some people even think of the word passion as being used in the context of a quotation. Be good to yourself as well as the people you come across on the journey of your life. You will learn to appreciate this mindset in the end.

Express yourself.

Never be afraid to be who you are. You might not be ‘the monk who sold his Rolls Royce’ yet. All you have to do is compartmentalise your intuition and your creativity, recognise that they are powerful tools that each have their own subtle language, wilderness history and psychological framework. There are uphill battles and downhill battles. There is an internal struggle with the introvert of your inner child and your soul.

The breakthrough experience.

To be a titan, a power player, you need to walk with your arms outstretched in front of you. All gestures are significant at the end of the day. If you want to be a pilgrim, then be a pilgrim. Even pilgrims have goals and dreams. These are very important to have. Perfection will fail you. Your own potential never will. We are raising our daughters to be tech feminists in a new era. Finding like minded individuals.

Have no expectations.
