Update:

Shark Spotters confirmed that further investigations are underway following the suspected shark bite incident that occurred at approximately 1pm at Blue Waters, near Mnandi beach in False Bay, reports Cape {town} Etc.

‘A 65-year-old man was bitten by an animal while swimming and sustained lacerations to his hands and feet,’ said Shark Spotters in a Facebook post.

‘He was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention from lifesavers on the beach before being transferred to hospital.’

While eyewitnesses suspect the marine animal involved to be a shark ‘about the size of a domestic dog’, the shark safety and research organisation said further investigations are underway to determine the species.

According to Shark Spotters, the incident could have been caused by ‘any of a number of smaller shark species or also a seal’.

‘Given what is currently known, it is highly unlikely that the incident involved a white shark due to the relatively minor injuries sustained,’ the organisation added.

While details surrounding the shark attack remain unclear, it has been confirmed that the victim has been transported to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.

All swimmers have since been pulled from the water at Blue Waters Beach, Mnandi Beach and Muizenberg Beach.

This comes after shark safety and research organisation Shark Spotters reported a shark sighting at Muizenberg Beach just before 2pm on Friday afternoon.
