Right then, that is it from the first game but there's still plenty of more cricketing action to come in this series. The 2nd T20I will be played at the very same venue in a couple of days, i.e., Friday, 6 September. The match will begin at 1 pm GMT but you can join us an hour in advance for the build-up. Cheers!

21:21 IST:

Richie Berrington, the skipper of Scotland says they batted well at the start but couldn't really capitalize and credits Australian bowlers for doing well. Adds that they are disappointed with the way things ended but they will need to take what they can from this and if they execute things better, they can certainly do well. Talks about how they as a team want to get this kind of exposure against teams like Australia and they will have to keep the belief and play positively and try and come back stronger.

21:19 IST:

Mitchell Marsh, the captain of Australia says that it feels nice to start with a win and that they had an all round performance. Adds that the execution was great and the energy was positive as well. Appreciates the atmosphere and the crowd for loving cricket.

21:22 IST:

Travis Head is deservedly named PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his spectacular innings, smashing 80 runs off just 25 balls. He says it is a nice way to get underway and he and Marsh did well to get some runs in. Adds that he is enjoying the atmosphere in the camp and the fresh and new energy in the squad is nice. Says it was a tricky start when they lost Jake Fraser-McGurk and didn't know how the pitch would play like but with Mitchell Marsh at the other end, they managed to stick out a good partnership.

21:18 IST:

The Presentation ceremony...

21:18 IST:

Earlier in the game, Mitchell Marsh won the toss and put Scotland into bat. The home side looked to be taking advantage of this and raced to 50 runs inside the first 6 overs but then, wickets started to fall and no one was willing to play the anchor role. Batters came in, had a few hits and went back as the Aussie bowlers capitalized and did amazingly well to keep Scotland to just over the 150-run mark.

21:16 IST:

Scotland knew at the break that they left more than a few runs out in the middle but weren't expecting to be blown away like that especially after Brandon McMullen got rid of Jake Fraser-McGurk on the third delivery of the chase. After the first over though, it kept on going from bad to worse as the lowest economy rate by a Scottish pacer ended up as 12.50 runs per over. The others went at over 15 runs per over and only Mark Watt stood out in that bowling attack. Watt picked up a couple of wickets for just 13 runs in his 2 overs but it wasn't nearly as enough to what Scotland needed.

21:13 IST:

Given the scoreline and how quickly 155 runs were chased down, one would hope that the exciting debutant, Jake Fraser-McGurk would have been at full flow but unfortunately for him, it was a three-ball duck for him on debut. Travis Head on the other hand has probably been the standout batter of 2024 and he was simply relentless. Head stitched together a mighty 113-run stand along with skipper Mitchell Marsh in just 34 balls and both of them were striking at more than 3 runs a ball. Marsh fell on 39 but Head went on to score 80 in just 25 balls before Josh Inglis played a fine cameo, 27 off 13 balls and Marcus Stoinis finished things off in style.

21:09 IST:

Records kept tumbling down in that run chase and we could have seen a few more go down as Travis Head missed out on a potential fastest T20I ton and Jack Jarvis managed to not concede a boundary on one of his 10 deliveries. All in all, it was entertainment galore for the fans out there but the home side have a lot to ponder upon.

21:08 IST:

'CARNAGE' - This is what seems apt to describe that batting display from the Aussies and they have hardly taken 45 minutes and a little under 10 overs to knock over a target of 155 runs. For a few minutes, it looked like the Aussies were playing backyard cricket but Scotland did manage to save face by at least picking up a few wickets.

21:04 IST:

9.4: Jack Jarvis to Marcus Stoinis, SIX! FETCH IT! Jack Jarvis bowls another short ball and keeps it around off. Marcus Stoinis stands tall and slaps it over long on. The ball comfortably clears the fence for a biggie and Australia win the first game in this series by 7 wickets and absolutely establish themselves in Edinburgh.

21:04 IST:

9.3: Jack Jarvis to Josh Inglis, Short and over off. Josh Inglis pulls it to deep square leg for a single. Australia are 5 runs away from the win.

21:03 IST:

9.2: Jack Jarvis to Josh Inglis, FOUR! Jack Jarvis is really being taken apart here. He serves it full and around off. Josh Inglis creams this one through covers and finds the gap as well. The result is another boundary in this over.

21:03 IST:

9.1: Jack Jarvis to Josh Inglis, FOUR! INNOVATIVE! On a length and around off. Josh Inglis shifts his posture and scoops it over fine leg. There is nothing the fielder can do apart from watching the ball roll towards the fence for four.

21:01 IST:

8.6: Mark Watt to Marcus Stoinis, Flat and full around off. Marcus Stoinis goes for the reverse sweep but finds the fielder at point. A tight over for Mark Watt.

21:01 IST:

8.5: Mark Watt to Marcus Stoinis, Good delivery! Tossed up and angled into the batter. Stoinis gets cramped for room and blocks it out.

21:01 IST:

8.4: Mark Watt to Josh Inglis, Pitched fuller and around off. Inglis opens up his bat and sends it past point for yet another single.

21:00 IST:

8.3: Mark Watt to Marcus Stoinis, Again back of a length and over off. Marcus Stoinis guides it through point for one more.

21:03 IST:

Boos go around the ground as Marcus Stoinis now pulls out of the shot and Mark Watt is certainly not happy with it. Another dead ball is called when again Watt had released the ball and it again went over the stumps.

20:59 IST:

8.2: Mark Watt to Josh Inglis, Short and outside off. Josh Inglis cuts it past point and runs a single.

20:59 IST:

8.1: Mark Watt to Josh Inglis, Tossed up on leg. Josh Inglis blocks it out watchfully.

20:59 IST:

Josh Inglis has almost cleaned up Marcus Stoinis at the other end but the former managed to sway away a bit. However, the ball did bruise Stoinis on the right glove and his fingers are certainly stinging right now. The physio is out to have a look and it is the little finger that seems to be an area of concern. A slight hold-up in play this and after a few minutes, Stoinis is ready to get going.

20:56 IST:

7.6: Jasper Davidson to Josh Inglis, Full now, on middle. Josh Inglis drives it down the ground for a single to end the over. That shot has hit Marcus Stoinis on the hand before deflecting towards long on. Josh Inglis apologises instantly and Stoinis looks in a bit of pain.

20:55 IST:

7.5: Jasper Davidson to Josh Inglis, SIX! BANG! A series of short balls from Davidson. Josh Inglis just picks this one up on the leg side. The fielders watch the ball flying over the deep mid-wicket region for a biggie. This chase is taking a heavy toll on Scotland's bowling attack.

20:54 IST:

7.4: Jasper Davidson to Josh Inglis, FOUR! Josh Inglis gets in his groove now! Jasper Davidson bowls another short ball, this time outside off. Josh Inglis gets under the bounce and cuts it over point. The ball races away to the fence for a boundary.

20:54 IST:

7.3: Jasper Davidson to Marcus Stoinis, Short again over middle. Marcus Stoinis pulls it with good timing but finds the fielder at deep square leg. Another single taken.

20:53 IST:

7.2: Jasper Davidson to Josh Inglis, On a good length and on middle. Josh Inglis whips it to fine leg for a single to rotate the strike.

20:52 IST:

7.1: Jasper Davidson to Josh Inglis, Short and quick over leg. Josh Inglis tries to pull but he doesn't get the connection intended. Cross behind the stumps wrong foots himself and the ball rolls past him. The batters run a brace.

20:51 IST:

Marcus Stoinis is the new batter in. Also, Jasper Davidson is all set to bowl on his debut now.

20:51 IST:

6.6: Mark Watt to Travis Head, OUT! TAKEN! THAT IS THE BIG WICKET! Mark Watt creates a significant impact. Takes two in his over. He serves it full and right on the off pole. Travis Head looks to muscle it over long off but like Marsh, he too doesn't get the distance needed. It is Michael Leask again to complete the catch and Head departs after a monstrous knock of 80 (25).

20:48 IST:

6.5: Mark Watt to Travis Head, SIX! UP UP AND AWAY! Mark Watt drops it short and around off. Travis Head gets low and slogs it over deep backward square leg. The ball lands beyond the fence for a biggie. Keeps the attack coming from one end.

20:48 IST:

6.4: Mark Watt to Josh Inglis, A juicy full toss, angling into the pads. Josh Inglis whips it to deep square leg for another single. A quiet over so far.

20:47 IST:

6.3: Mark Watt to Travis Head, Floated full around off. Travis Head slaps it back past the bowler for a single.

20:47 IST:

6.3: Mark Watt to Travis Head, Wide! Errs in line now. Short and way outside off. Travis Head leaves it alone as the umpire signals a wide.

20:47 IST:

6.2: Mark Watt to Josh Inglis, Tossed up now on the toes. Josh Inglis clips it towards mid on and gets off the mark with a single. We haven't seen that in a couple of overs.

21:20 IST:

Josh Inglis is the new man in. Hold on, there seems to be some confusion and Inglis has pulled out really late on his first delivery. Inglis has a look up and Mark Watt delivers the ball that clips the top of the stumps but Inglis backs away and signals that he wasn't ready. The issue however is that Inglis certainly had a look up well before Watt delivered the ball. The umpire gives Inglis a warning but the ball is considered as a dead ball. A difficult call for the umpire and there will surely be some talk about it on social media.

20:45 IST:

6.1: Mark Watt to Mitchell Marsh, OUT! TAKEN! SOME RELIEF! Mark Watt gets a wicket off his first. He loops it full and around off. Mitchell Marsh with great intent lofts it over mid off. However, he doesn't get the distance needed and Michael Leask takes a fine catch to send him back. A wicket will boost their morale but the damage has been done. Marsh walks back for a breezy 32 (19) and the stand is broken at 113 runs.

20:48 IST:

Have you ever seen anything like that? Not only do Australia smash the world record for most runs in a T20I Powerplay but they are currently on a 14-ball boundary-hitting spree as well. The last ball that wasn't a four or a six was way back in the 4th over, 3.4 to be exact. Also, Mark Watt comes into the attack now. Can he conjure up some magic?

20:43 IST:

5.6: Brad Wheal to Travis Head, FOUR! 26 off this over! Brad Wheal has no clue where to bowl. He serves it on a length and on off. Travis Head cuts it past point and the ball again finds the fence for four more runs to end the over. Australia 113/1 at the end of the Powerplay, unreal!

20:42 IST:

5.5: Brad Wheal to Travis Head, FOUR! HELPED AWAY! Poor delivery on the pads. Travis Head gets some bat on it and the ball races past square leg. The ball isn't stopping before meeting the fence for a boundary.

20:41 IST:

5.4: Brad Wheal to Travis Head, FOUR! WOW! On a good length and on the pads. Travis Head whips it off and the ball runs fine. There is no stopping it from meeting the fence for four runs. Australia have now posted the highest powerplay score in the history of T20Is.

20:41 IST:

5.3: Brad Wheal to Travis Head, FOUR! OH MY WORD! On a nagging length but Head won't stop. He punches it over cover and the ball again finds the vacant region and races off to the fence for four runs. On the brink of breaking a WORLD RECORD and this is just the 2nd time in T20Is that 100 runs have been crossed inside the Powerplay.

20:40 IST:

5.2: Brad Wheal to Travis Head, SIX! CARNAGE! Short now as Brad Wheal pitches it over middle. Travis Head swivels and pulls it with supreme timing. The ball sails over the fence at deep square leg for a biggie. This is destruction of the bowling attack.

20:40 IST:

5.1: Brad Wheal to Travis Head, FOUR! FIFTY FOR TRAVIS HEAD! In just 17 balls and we have seen that before. They will not stop! On a length and over off. Head moves away and punches it through covers. The ball races off to the fence for four runs to begin the over.

20:40 IST:

Brad Wheal (1-0-13-0) is back on to bowl the final over of the Powerplay.

20:39 IST:

4.6: Jack Jarvis to Mitchell Marsh, FOUR! 30 runs come off this over! Short of a length again, and punished! Mitchell Marsh pulls it well and splits the gap at deep square leg again for four more.

20:38 IST:

4.5: Jack Jarvis to Mitchell Marsh, FOUR! There are absolutely no answers to the questions asked by Australia! Jack Jarvis continues to dig it in short and over middle and leg, Mitchell Marsh swivels back and rolls his wrist over as he pulls it through the gap at deep square leg for a boundary.

20:37 IST:

4.4: Jack Jarvis to Mitchell Marsh, SIX! Blasts it high and long into the stands for another maximum! Jarvis goes short and hits it into the surface over off, Mitchell Marsh slashes it flat over point for a maximum.

20:37 IST:

4.3: Jack Jarvis to Mitchell Marsh, FOUR! Timed and how! Too full from Jarvis, on off, Mitchell Marsh leans on and drives it through covers for another boundary.

20:36 IST:

4.2: Jack Jarvis to Mitchell Marsh, SIX! Back-to-back sixes from Mitchell Marsh! The ground is stunned as Australia are on the verge of making a mockery of this chase! Short of a length and over middle and leg, Mitchell Marsh takes a step out and helps it behind square on the leg side for six more.

20:35 IST:

4.1: Jack Jarvis to Mitchell Marsh, SIX! BOOM! Right off the middle of the bat! Jack Jarvis starts from over the wicket and digs it in short over middle and leg, Mitchell Marsh stands tall and launches it over mid-wicket for a biggie.

20:34 IST:

Jack Jarvis comes into the attack now.

20:34 IST:

3.6: Charlie Cassell to Travis Head, FOUR! This is outrageous! On a length and around middle and leg, Travis Head hoicks it over mid-wicket for four more.

20:32 IST:

3.5: Charlie Cassell to Travis Head, SIX! Launches it into the stands with a clean strike! On a good length and honing into the stumps, Travis Head clobbers it over mid-wicket for another biggie!

20:32 IST:

3.4: Charlie Cassell to Travis Head, Back of a length and over off, Travis Head fends it out to the off side.

20:31 IST:

20:30 IST:

20:29 IST:

2.6: Brandon McMullen to Travis Head, SIX! Absolutely effortless! Travis Head is putting on a show here! This is short and over middle and leg, Travis Head pulls it over backward square leg for a biggie.

20:28 IST:

20:27 IST:

20:22 IST:

20:24 IST:

0.6: Brandon McMullen to Mitchell Marsh, On a short of a length and over off, Mitchell Marsh blocks it down the deck. Scotland start the innings on the right note!

20:24 IST:

20:24 IST:

0.5: Brandon McMullen to Mitchell Marsh, Shorter in length again and outside off, Mitchell Marsh leaves it alone.

20:24 IST:

0.4: Brandon McMullen to Mitchell Marsh, FOUR! Not a very convincing shot from the Aussie skipper! This is on a length and on off, Mitchell Marsh checks his shot away from his body and gets it off the outer half and past short third for a boundary. Australia are up and running!

20:19 IST:

20:24 IST:

0.3: Brandon McMullen to Jake Fraser-McGurk, OUT! CAUGHT! Oh no, not the debut Jake Fraser-McGurk was hoping for! Scotland strike early and land a major blow by taking down a key player right at the start of the innings. What a huge wicket as Jake Fraser-McGurk walks back for a duck! McMullen digs it short and over middle and off, Jake Fraser-McGurk waits back and looks to pull this away but mistime his shot over mid-wicket, Charlie Cassell backtracks and takes a brilliant catch above his head and he tumbles back.

20:23 IST:

20:17 IST:

We are back for Australia's reply! The umpires are back out in the middle and the Scottish players can be seen in a huddle before taking their places on the field. It will be the explosive duo of Travis Head and debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk to open the innings for Australia. Brandon McMullen to get proceedings underway with the ball here. Let's go...

20:14 IST:

... THE RUN CHASE ...

20:11 IST:

Right then, 155 needed for Australia to take a 1-0 lead in this three-match T20I series and it should be pretty straightforward. However, there is something in the pitch and those slower deliveries seem to be gripping every now and then. Scotland will be hoping for wickets in the Powerplay if they are to have any shot at defending this total. Don't go anywhere as the run chase is up next.

20:10 IST:

Australia will be pretty content with how the first innings panned out and even though a couple of their bowlers seemed to be going the distance early on, the job of the others helped them to bounce back as well. Xavier Bartlett was stellar up top and then Adam Zampa bowled another consistent spell in the middle overs as the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green really stemmed the flow of runs. Sean Abbott and Riley Meredith got hit but managed to take advantage of the exposed Scottish tail in the death overs.

20:13 IST:

Scotland enjoyed a solid Powerplay and scored in excess of 50 runs but sooner rather than later, wickets started to tumble and they couldn't stitch together one big stand. As many as five batters scored at least 15 runs but none of them could even break into the 30s and that is where they really faltered as on this pitch, once you are set, you need to take full advantage. George Munsey, Richie Berrington and Matthew Cross all seemed in control out there but ended up giving away their wickets and now, a lot rides on their new-look pace attack.

20:06 IST:

An inning that blew hot and cold and Scotland simply couldn't hold things together as a lot of batters got fast starts, only to let it slip when needed most. Australia were able to capitalize and did a fine job of picking up wickets at regular intervals and head into the halftime interval with an advantage.

20:06 IST:

The Grange Cricket Club is generally a batting paradise where we see scores of 200-plus in T20 games but given, this is the first game of the summer here and there has been some rain around, the pitch was on the slower side. Still, a lovely one to bat on and Scotland would have loved a few more runs in ther kitty.

20:04 IST:

19.6: Sean Abbott to Brad Wheal, Bye! Drops it short and keeps it away from off. Brad Wheal doesn't get any bat on it this time. Jasper Davidson scampers across from the other end to steal a run. Josh Inglis throws it at the stumps and gets a direct hit as well but the batter was safely in the crease. Scotland finish with 154/9 on the board!

20:02 IST:

19.5: Sean Abbott to Brad Wheal, Sean Abbott takes pace off and digs it in short and outside off, Brad Wheal tries to ride the bounce and mistimes his pull to deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.

20:02 IST:

19.4: Sean Abbott to Brad Wheal, Fuller in length and outside off, Brad Wheal cuts it to deep point for a couple more runs. Scotland cross the 150-run mark.

20:01 IST:

19.3: Sean Abbott to Brad Wheal, FOUR! Not very convincing but Scotland will take it! Sean Abbott looks for the yorker on the stumps but misses by a fraction and lands it full, Brad Wheal swings across the line and gets an inside edge past the keeper to fine leg fence for a boundary.

20:00 IST:

Brad Wheal is the last batter in for Scotland.

20:00 IST:

19.2: Sean Abbott to Charlie Cassell, OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust and Scotland lose their 9th! This is wider outside off, on a length, Charlie Cassell looks for the big hoick on the off side but mistimes it high in the sky around covers. Mitchell Marsh from covers has a look and hopes that someone will call for it but decides to then go after the catch and takes a solid low catch coming in to his left.

19:59 IST:

19.1: Sean Abbott to Jasper Davidson, A full toss on off, Jasper Davidson misses out on getting the most off it as he skews it off the outer half to the off side for just a single.

19:58 IST:

18.6: Riley Meredith to Jasper Davidson, Full and honing at the stumps, Jasper Davidson just about manages to drag it across to mid on for a single.

19:57 IST:

18.5: Riley Meredith to Jasper Davidson, Angles the short one, into the batter, over middle, Jasper Davidson sways back away from the line and looks to awkwardly play at it but misses.

19:57 IST:

18.4: Riley Meredith to Charlie Cassell, On a shorter length and over off, Charlie Cassell stays back and guides it to deep this for one.

19:56 IST:

18.3: Riley Meredith to Jasper Davidson, Full and on off, Jasper Davidson looks to play it on the off side but gets an outside edge to deep third for a single.

19:55 IST:

Jasper Davidson, the other debutant now walks out to bat.

19:55 IST:

18.2: Riley Meredith to Mark Watt, OUT! CAUGHT! Scotland's innings is crumbling like a house of cards! Mark Watt will be kicking himself after that mistimed shot, handing an easy catch to the fielder and missing a real opportunity. Riley Meredith bowls it full and on off, right in the arc again, Mark Watt hangs back and looks to slash it over covers but is late on his shot and ends up hitting it straight to Marcus Stoinis at covers.

19:54 IST:

18.1: Riley Meredith to Mark Watt, From over the wicket, Meredith bowls this full and into the pads, Mark Watt flicks it well to deep square leg. A slight fumble from Cameron Green allows the batter to steal a second run.

19:54 IST:

Riley Meredith to bowl the penultimate over of the first innings.

19:53 IST:

17.6: Sean Abbott to Charlie Cassell, Goes full and just outside off, Charlie Cassell looks to jam it away but misses.

19:52 IST:

Charlie Cassell, on T20I debut, is the new batter in.

19:52 IST:

17.5: Sean Abbott to Jack Jarvis, OUT! CAUGHT! Sean Abbott strikes and Jack Jarvis has to trudge back for 10 (8) as Scotland lose their 7th. Abbott bowls this full and on off but slower as well, Jack Jarvis bends low and looks for the big heave away from his body. Plays the shot a bit too early and ends up shooting it high in the air in front of long on. Cameron Green charges in from the deep and settles under to take a simple catch.

19:51 IST:

17.4: Sean Abbott to Mark Watt, Looks for another yorker, but serves a very low, dipping full toss on the pads, Mark Watt looks to work it across the line but miscues it to covers for a single.

19:50 IST:

17.3: Sean Abbott to Jack Jarvis, Lands the yorker, on the stumps, Jack Jarvis digs it in front of cover for a single.

19:50 IST:

17.2: Sean Abbott to Mark Watt, Digs it in short and into the surface over middle, Mark Watt waits back and manages to dab it down to deep mid-wicket for a single.

19:49 IST:

17.1: Sean Abbott to Mark Watt, SIX! Pummels it out of the park with brute force! Too full from Abbott, right in the arc around middle and off, Mark Watt takes a step out and keeps his head firm as he clobbers it straight over the bowler's head for a biggie.

19:48 IST:

Sean Abbott is back on to bowl at the death. He went for 21 runs in his first 2 overs and picked up a wicket.

19:47 IST:

16.6: Xavier Bartlett to Mark Watt, Fired in full, on middle and leg, Mark Watt gets low and ramps it to short third. The batters scamper for the quick single and despite a direct hit at the striker's end, they make it. Remember, there's no TV replay available to check these things and the onfield decision will be final.

19:46 IST:

16.5: Xavier Bartlett to Jack Jarvis, On a back of a length and on the pads, Jack Jarvis pulls it along the ground to square leg for a single.

19:46 IST:

16.4: Xavier Bartlett to Mark Watt, On a good length and around off, Mark Watt opens the bat face and guides it to short third for a single.

19:45 IST:
