Royal AM moved closer to securing their DStv Premiership status after a goalless draw against Chippa United on Saturday afternoon.

Royal AM were bolstered by the return of Menzi Masuku and also recalled Sedwyn George to lead the attack alongside Mfundo Thikazi and Levy Mashiane.

Chippa, on the other hand, were also boosted by the return of Bienvenu Eva Nga, who spearheaded the attack in the absence of Sinoxolo Kwayiba.

Thwihli Thwahla had the attacking initiative in the early stages but it took up after 20 minutes for the first shot at goal, as Mashiane forced a save out of shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali with a strike from the edge of the box.

John Maduka's charges continued to put Chippa under pressure but they could not get clear-cut chances, with their strikes from range off the mark and the sides went to the break deadlocked.

The Chilli Boys needed to come alive upfront from the break and after emerging from the change room, they introduced the fresh legs of Ronaldo Maarman and Thabo Makhele.

Chippa improved in attack as on the hour-mark Justice Chabalala almost broke the deadlock with a header that was smothered by Nwabali.

The Chilli Boys continued to pressurize Royal AM and with 15 minutes remaining, Makhele also came close with a header that missed narrowly wide.

Thwihli Thwahla had the fresh legs of Motebang Sera, who replaced George, in the dying minutes but they could come up with chances, as the game ended all square.

Maduka's men moved three points clear of 15th-placed Richards Bay in 14th spot, ahead of their final game against Moroka Swallows.

Chippa on the other hand, officially avoided relegation and remained two points behind eighth-placed Kaizer Chiefs in 12th spot ahead of their final match against Sekhukhune United.
