A 911 call made by his partner has surfaced, where she reveals that the rapper had been sitting on their couch since the previous night and had not moved. Sounding petrified, Quan’s girlfriend said that she noticed the rapper foaming at his mouth when she attempted to move him.

Kwesta, who once featured Quan on one of his singles titled “Run It Up”, says that although the 34-year-old was a global star, he was down to earth.

“Rich Homie Quan was quite a kindhearted person. Big as he was in terms of music; he had worldwide hits, but he never made you feel it,” explains Kwesta.

Kwesta says during their shoot of the “Run It Up” music video, Quan was extremely helpful and seemed pleased to have touched on South African soil.

“When we were shooting the video, it felt like we were doing it with an old friend. He was really helpful and involved and was happy to be here. I think it wasn’t easy for him to leave,” remarks the South African rapper and songwriter.

The “Ngud” hitmaker says they approached Quan two years ago when he and his team were on an international collaboration streak to produce hits, citing that he was elated that Quan agreed to collaborate and also come to SA to shoot a music video with him.

“I, as Kwesta, and the team was sort of on an international collaboration streak. We had just done some work with Rick ross and Wale, and we added Rich Homie Quan through a connect. When Rich Homie Quan agreed to do it, I was excited and ecstatic, and worse, when he agreed to come to the country.”

Kwesta also expressed his sadness over Quan’s death.

He says it is not just a loss to the American rapper’s family, but to the entertainment industry at large.

“It’s a really sad day. It makes me feel really sad. It’s a sad day for the industry, it’s a loss for his family, it’s a loss to the world. It’s not good to hear stuff like this about anyone,” he says.

Kwesta says he is glad to have crossed paths with such a talent, adding that he wishes Quan’s soul to rest in peace. Written by Odirile Rabolao
