Remembrance Day marked in many ways across our diocese ...
Services and events to mark Remembrance Day have taken place across our diocese as communities paid their respects in a wide range of ways.
Planning often begins months in advance, such as knitted and crocheted poppies created to form a poignant door display at St Chad’s Far Headingley.
A falling stream of poppies provided a lasting image at St John’s Bilton, near Harrogate while at All Souls’ (Hook Memorial) Church in Leeds, the subtle illumination of its tower sent out the Remembrance message.
An example of how parishes supported this year’s Poppy Appeal was at St Margaret’s Methley which held a special fundraising event attended by people of all ages.
Our clergy played key roles the many civic events across the diocese and Wakefield Cathedral's Annual Service of Remembrance welcomed the Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr Darren
Byford, the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Ed Anderson and mayors from Bradford, Calderdale, Normanton, Featherstone and Selby, plus their spouses and mayoresses.
Also present were The Leader of Wakefield Council Cllr Denise Jeffery, the Elected Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin and other district councillors.
