Real Madrid vs Bayern

Full match player ratings below:

Andriy Lunin—7: Did everything he needed to do on the night - four saves, two from inside the box, and a succesful claim late on to see out the victory.

Dani Carvajal—7.5: The Real Madrid academy prospect is going to prepare for his sixth Champions League final! Defended well against Gnarby, Musiala, and Davies.

Rudiger—8.5: Another stone-wall defensive performance in the center of the Madrid backline. Fights for every ball like it’s his last. Provided the assist on the Joselu game-winner, finding himself inside the box and swinging a left footed cross near the face of the Bayern goal.

Nacho—7.5: Hardly put a foot wrong all match. Outpaced Sane on what would have been a Bayern break in the first half to keep the score level. Set-up the game-winnning goal by feeding Rudiger who then found Joselu.

Ferland Mendy—7: Leroy Sane was Bayern’s biggest threat over two legs and the Frenchman managed the duel in the second leg. It was Ferland Mendy who was the lone defender in a 3 v 1 situation late in the game and his defending in that sequence kept Madrid in the match.

Tchouameni—6: Had to cover a lot of ground whenever Bayern looked to counter. Not the midfielder’s best match but kept things simple in possesion and helped Madrid stay in control for large parts of the game.

Fede Valverde—6: Like Tchouameni, was not at his best level, but looked to take advantage of his athleticism when matched up with Pavlovic.

Toni Kroos—9: Yet another Toni Kroos masterclass in one of the biggest games of the season. A game high of 4 key passes, 112 touches, 95/101 passes completed, 18/20 long balls, and countless crucial toe-pokes or interceptions defensively. Everything went through Toni Kroos’ feet - the heartbeat of this Madrid team.

Jude Bellingham—6.5: His night will be remembered more for his defensive work and relentless work rate than his offensive contribution. Put in a number of well-timed challenges just outside the Madrid box to deny Bayern a goal-scoring opportunity.

Rodrygo—5: Rough night for the Brazilian who missed two big chances each created by his compatriot, Vini JR.

Vinicius Junior—9: Man of the match. The best player on the pitch alongside Toni Kroos. The Brazilian was relentless. Completed 7 dribbles most of which came against Kimmich and De Ligt. Did everything in his power to bring his beloved Madrid over the line and into the final. Would have had a couple goals himself had Neuer not made some heroic saves. It was one such save from a Vinicius shot that bobbled out and led to the Joselu equalizer. On the biggest stage and the biggest nights, the Brazilian always performs.

Substitutions:

Luka Modric—7.5: Brought the required energy needed when replacing Kroos and raised the urgency and improved the rhythm of Madrid’s game late in the second half to turn the tide. Burst a lung in the final minutes of the match to get back and disposses Bayern on a 3 v 1 counter.

Eduardo Camavinga—6.5: A double substitution alongside Modric to freshen up Madrid’s midfield and to try and turn the game.

Joselu—9: One of the greatest night’s of Joselu’s life. A night he will never forget. A goal in the 88th minute to equalize and two minutes later, a goal in stoppage time to send Madrid to Wembley for their 15th European Cup final. Historic.

Brahim Diaz—N/A: Brought on with Joselu for the final 10 minutes of the match.

Eder Militao—N/A: Subbed on in the 100th minute to add a defensive layer and to burn some time off the clock.
