NICOLA DOCHERTY has encouraged Rangers to continue their momentum going into this weekend as they look to head into the internationals on a high.

The Light Blues will host Dundee United at Broadwood tomorrow afternoon in their final outing before the last break of 2024 kicks in.

Speaking to RangersTV to reflect on their impressive derby triumph and test against their Sunday opponents, she said: “We are obviously off the back of a good result but we know that Dundee United will be difficult opposition.

“That game will probably look a little bit different than the Celtic one in terms of playing against a low block.

“That is something that we know how to play against, we have come up against them before but we just need to continue how we have been playing and making sure that we don't take our foot off the gas.

“In these games we need to go there playing how we have been the last few weeks with a fast tempo and moving the ball quick, so hopefully we can go do that and get the job done.

“You can't go and turn over your rivals and get three points there and then the change the momentum for the next game.

The Gers skipper has praised the togetherness of the squad after their statement win last weekend and wants the team to go back it up with another positive result.

She continued: “It is a huge result for us. We knew going into the game that it wasn't necessarily a must-win because it is so early in the season but it is one of those games that you really want to get the bragging rights.

“You want to get through those games with three points.

“It is a long season, there is a lot of games to be played so we have put ourselves in a nice position getting three points that game but there is a lot of games to be played and a long way to go.

“Mentality is so important and people will maybe be looking at that game and thinking aww they have done it again but we actually managed to come back three times and that shows a lot of character that is within the dressing room.”

Following the conclusion of tomorrow’s fixture the captain will join up with her Scotland teammates ahead of their crucial play-off final tie against Finland, and she wants the team to prove the doubters wrong by booking their place at next summer’s European Championships.

She added: “That is the end goal is to be on that flight going to Switzerland next summer for the Euros.

“They are going to be difficult matches; no play-off is ever going to be easy so it is going to be tough but we know that if we play the way that we can there is no way that we can't come out on top.

“I think when you look at our last game against Hungary at Easter Road that is probably the best that we have played in quite some time.

“We are going to take confidence off the back of that but we never take anything for granted, we know that we need to turn up in these games because they are extremely crucial and we know that we want to be going to the Euros next summer.

“I think what the squad has been through in terms of that heartache and disappointment I think we are more than ready this time and we want to prove a lot of people wrong that we do feel that we deserve to be going to the next major tournament.”

Kick off for the Light Blues’ league game in Cumbernauld is at 4pm and tickets are available to purchase here, priced at £7 for adults and £4 for concessions and juveniles.
