The Rise of “Rage Applying” Among Young Workers

23 Jun 2023

According to a report by Newschannel5.com, there is a new trend emerging among the younger workforce called “rage applying.” While “quiet quitting” has been a term commonly used to describe employees who stay in their jobs but give up and do the bare minimum, “rage applying” takes a different approach.

It is not uncommon for individuals to browse other job opportunities when they become frustrated at work. However, the difference now is how easy it has become to apply for multiple positions. With platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed, hundreds of job applications are readily available online, and they can be completed and submitted even from your phone. To make the process even more efficient, applicants are now using artificial intelligence to fill out these applications.

Despite the convenience of applying to numerous jobs, it often takes sending out hundreds of applications to hear back from just one employer. This can be a discouraging experience for many, but it hasn’t stopped the younger generation from expressing their frustrations. On platforms like TikTok, young employees are sharing their grievances about being underpaid, overworked, stressed, and lacking the promotions they believe they deserve.

It appears that Gen Z has taken a stand against this unfavorable work environment, and their efforts seem to be paying off. Recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that the unemployment rate for individuals aged 16 to 24 reached a 70-year low in March. Additionally, the workforce is reportedly the healthiest it has been for young workers in decades.

For young workers who are considering a change, it is advisable not to wait until they are angry to start the job application process. Instead, they should adopt a strategic approach and keep an eye on the job market while still being employed. By mixing “rage quitting” with “rage applying,” young employees can navigate the job market more effectively and seek out better opportunities.
