PSV 1-1 Sporting: Braganca's late raid punishes wasteful PSV ...
PSV Eindhoven’s hopes of a first Champions League victory of the season were dashed as Daniel Braganca’s late volley earn Sporting Lisbon a point they scarcely deserved.
PSV were the better team for most of the match and deservedly took the lead in the 15th minute when Jerdy Schouten’s long-range shot flew in off the post.
But Peter Bosz’s side were unable to capitalise on their superiority, with Luuk de Jong and Guus Til spurning good chances in the second half.
Instead Sporting came back into the game and minutes after Johan Bakayoko missed an open goal for PSV, substitute Braganca rounded off the counter-attack by flicking in a cross with the outside of his right boot.
Captain Luuk de Jong, playing his 300th match for PSV, did not try to hide his frustration at the result. “I didn’t see it coming,” he said of the equaliser. “Before the 1-1 I didn’t think they created much.
“We scored a good goal in the first half from Jerdy Schouten and after the break we started well and had a few good chances. But we didn’t take the rewards and we knew they could always be dangerous.”
PSV’s next match in the competition is against Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital on October 22.
