A landscape worker is in critical condition Tuesday morning after being struck by a sedan while in a lane that had been blocked off to traffic, the Port St. Lucie Police Department reported. (PSLPD)

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A landscape workerwas injured Tuesday morning after being struck by a sedan while in a lane that had been blocked off to traffic, the Port St. Lucie Police Department reported.

According to the police department, an inside lane of Southwest Port St. Lucie Boulevard was closed near Southwest Kail Street when an eastbound black Mercedes went into the closed off the area and hit the worker.

Images released by the police department show a work truck with an unlit arrow sign to direct drivers surrounded by traffic cones. An additional picture showed a Mercedes with a traffic cone still under the bumper of front passenger side of the car.

The woman was flown to Lawnwood Hospital where she is in critical condition, police originally said. In an update, a police spokesperson indicated her injuries are considered to be non-life threatening. Her name has not been released at this time.

The investigation was still ongoing around noon on Tuesday, and authorities were asking drivers to avoid the area while they are on scene.
