On Tuesday night, Rob Walter's burgeoning Proteas white-ball outfit provided compelling evidence that they won't be bogged down by last month's umpteenth semi-final disappointment at the 50-over showpiece with a five-wicket victory over India at St George's Park.

Already resigned to the fact that upcoming franchise leagues will have to dictate squad selections for next year's T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA in the absence of bilateral fixtures, this second T20 of three was at risk of being rendered even more irrelevant in terms of the greater scheme of things when rain halted proceedings shortly before the visitors' innings was concluded.
