As the Proteas head into Tuesday's must-win second ODI against India at St George's Park in Gqeberha, they have the growing bogey of India's dominance in 50-Over cricket against them they need to worry about.
This recent hegemony was rubber-stamped in Sunday's eight-wicket win in the first ODI, which also doubled up as the Pink ODI at the Wanderers, where the success was India's fourth consecutive win over the Proteas since last year.
The Proteas were able to beat India 3-0 in a nondescript ODI series in the Cape at the start of 2022 and took that momentum into the ICC World Cup Super League in India later that year with a nine-run win in a rain-shortened first ODI in Lucknow.
