50 for Hendricks

It's come off 32 balls and that is good news for the Proteas with the World Cup in mind. He's done it so many times now for his country.

Meanwhile, Fortuin is bowled first ball.

SA 107/7 (14.4)

23m ago

WICKET!

There goes Phehlukwayo, and that is surely that for the Proteas.

He was feeling a bit stuck, it seemed, and tried to launch McCoy out the ground but could only find the fielder at deep midwicket.

SA 96/6 (14)

23 May 23:56

SA 87/5 (12)

Hendricks is 37* (24) and is with Phehlukwayo, who has just come in. This partnership really needs to work for SA to stand any chance.

23 May 23:50

WICKET!

Oh dear, now Mulder is out for 0, pulling a short one straight to cows corner.

SA 78/5 (10.5) and in heaps of trouble now ...

23 May 23:46

WICKET!

Not what SA needed at all. First ball after drinks, Rassie goes on the reverse sweep and misses.

That's very, very out. LBW.

Van der Dussen gone for 17 (17)

SA 77/3 (10.1)

23 May 23:42

SA 77/3 (10)

This has been a good recovery from the Proteas with Hendricks and Van der Dussen running really well between the wickets and finding the odd boundary.

Hendricks 30* (22)

Rassie 17* (16)

SA need 99 off 60

23 May 23:31

SA 55/3 (7)

Hendricks has moved to 20* (13) and is key, as he has been so often, for SA here.

23 May 23:26

SA 46/3 (6)

10 off that over, but the powerplay still belongs to the Windies with the wickets they picked up.

A long way to go here for the Proteas ...

23 May 23:22

SA 36/3 (5)

Hendricks and Van der Dussen now at the crease together with it all to do ...

23 May 23:19

WICKET!

That's a big one! Breetzke was just starting to get going, but he's out LBW to Joseph. He's tried to flick that leg side, but maybe beaten for pace? The shot wasn't really on.

SA take another step backwards.

Breetzke gone for 19 (13).

SA 35/3 (4.4)

23 May 23:15

SA 29/2 (4)

Breetzke hits three boundaries in a row, manufacturing some room for himself on all three occasions to carve the spin of Hosein through the off-side.

23 May 23:11

SA 15/2 (3)

Good over from Joseph, bowling at good pace as you would expect.

SA just looking to consolidate a bit now. They don't bat very deep, with Mulder in at No 6 and then Phehlukwayo.

Windies will be fancying this ...

23 May 23:06

SA 11/2 (2)

Top over that from Chase, who finishes with two good dots to Breetzke.

Hendricks 1* (1)

Breetzke 0* (2)

Windies are right where they want to be here in their defence ...

23 May 23:04

WICKET!

Oh dear! Rickelton has played all around that off-spinner from Chase and he's stumped!

Early trouble here ...

SA 11/2 (1.4)

23 May 23:00

WICKET!

De Kock hits the first ball of the chase for four, but is then caught behind straight away!

He's out for 4 (2).

Not a great start for SA.

SA 9/1 (1)

23 May 22:47

INNINGS UPDATE

West Indies finish 175/8 and SA will take that!

Skipper Brandon King bashed 79 (45) and when he was in the Windies looked set for a big one.

It was the work of Andile Phehlukwayo and Ottniel Baartman, on debut, that changed things.

This wicket is certainly not easy to bat on. Some has stayed low and a change of pace is working a treat for the bowlers.

SA will still have to bat well.

Bowling figures:

Fortuin 0/14 (2)

Ngidi 0/41 (4)

Coetzee 1/30 (4)

Barrtman 3/26 (4)

Phehlukwayo 3/28 (4)

Mulder 0/16 (1)

Hendricks 0/8 (1)

23 May 22:43

WICKET!

It's a runout with the Windies trying to get two to get Chase back on strike. Neat work from Ngidi to get the bails off.

WI 174/8 (19.5)

23 May 22:39

WICKET!

Baartman gets his third and what a debut that is!

He finishes 3/26 (4) and it's Phehlukwayo with the catch. Those two have been the stars for the Proteas, who have done a superb job here. It looked like they would be chasing well over 200 at one stage.

WI 165/7 (19)

23 May 22:34

WI 160/6 (18)

The Windies are just a bit stuck, unable to find the fence here.

Nice work from Coetzee there, just five off.

Baartman continues ...

23 May 22:30

WI 155/6 (17)

Really good that from Baartman. Just four off ...

23 May 22:26

WICKET!

Baartman strikes, and SA continue their comeback!

It was full and just beat Hosein, clipping off stump.

WI 151/6 (16.1)

23 May 22:25

WI 151/5 (16)

Ngidi went for two boundaries to start the over but brought it back beautifully with four straight dots.

Baartman back in now ...

23 May 22:21

WI 143/5 (15)

Phehlukwayo finishes with 3/28 (4) and his was the spell that changed this game.

The Windies were flying before he pulled things back, and SA have now picked up their last 3 wickets for just 3 runs.

Ngidi back now ...

23 May 22:18

WICKET!

Phehlukwayo again! LBW! Windies review, but that was always hitting!

What a spell this has been!

WI 137/5 (14.4)

23 May 22:14

WICKET!

Off-stump out the ground! Fletcher went across the line, but Phehlukwayo has been the man to get SA back into this contest and he's won this battle.

WI 135/4 (14.1)

23 May 22:13

WI 135/3 (14)

For the first time in 12 overs, the run-rate has dipped below 10.

That's good signs for SA and they'll be looking for a strong finish here.

23 May 22:11

WICKET!

Length from Coetzee and Mayers mishits to find Hendricks at long-off. Proteas have been vastly improved the last few overs and they're back on it now.

WI 134/3 (13.3)

23 May 22:07

WI 132/2 (13)

Phehlukwayo has done a decent job here in his last two overs, just taking the sting out a bit.

Very important last 12 balls from the allrounder ...

23 May 22:03

WI 127/2 (12)

Well, the Hendricks experiment looked to be going okay until that last ball. He's almost pitched it on his own toe and is blasted over deep square for a maximum.

Mayers now taking on the aggressor role ...

23 May 21:59

WICKET!

Slower ball from Phehlukwayo, and King is early on it and hits it straight up.

Skipper Van der Dussen takes the catch and, boy, did SA need that!

King was brilliant and departs after a potentially match-winning 79 (45).

WI 115/2 (11)

Reeza Hendricks is having a bowl!

23 May 21:52

WI 109/1 (10)

Just the 16 off Mulder's first over.

Jeepers.

Proteas are struggling here and this drinks break means there will now be at least two minutes without another boundary ...

23 May 21:46

WI 93/1 (9)

King still going, and the Proteas really need to get him out.

Wiaan Mulder is now into the attack for the first time and is the sixth bowler ...

23 May 21:44

INJURY CONCERN

Baartman has slipped badly at the crease and is receiving some attention, but he's good to go, it seems.

He is, of course, in the T20 World Cup squad ...

23 May 21:41

Still a long way to go, Sir!

23 May 21:39

WI 82/1 (8)

It's pretty much just King, who is now 66* (36), who is hurting the Proteas. If they can get him, then they might be able to settle.

Meanwhile, the Proteas have just wasted a review trying to get King LBW off Coetzee. That was always missing leg.

Baartman returns ...

23 May 21:35

Brandon King is now playing some quite ridiculous shots. He's just punched Coetzee over point for six ...

23 May 21:34

Why have they dressed Mike Haysman, a South African commentator in a West Indian shirt ??? #WIvSA

— T.A.R.D.I.S (@Steph_Gov27) May 23, 2024

Fair question ...

23 May 21:32

WI 73/1 (7)

That was pretty tidy from Fortuin, expect for the ball that was LAUNCHED over his head by King for a massive six.

Coetzee back in now ...

23 May 21:28

WI 64/1 (6)

That's the powerplay done, and the hosts will be the happier of the sides.

King has blasted a 50 in no time, though he has had a fair share of luck - there were a number of lucky edges.

Fortuin returns ...

23 May 21:23

WI 53/1 (5)

Phehlukwayo's first over goes for 13, but he will also feel a bit aggrieved after an inside edge for four that just missed the stumps.

Ngidi returns ...

23 May 21:19

WI 40/1 (4)

Really good over from Baartman there, and SA are up and running. Two big powerplay overs to come.

Phehlukwayo comes into the attack ...

23 May 21:17

WICKET!

Baartman gets his first T20I wicket! He kept going straight, and Charles has a big swipe at it only to be caught by Rickelton - he CAN field! - on the deep square fence!

WI 36/1 (3.4)

23 May 21:14

WI 34/0 (3)

King is 28* (16), and Coetzee will feel unlucky after that over. He beat the batter with a bouncer that was top-edged for six, and then the next ball King inside-edged one for four.

Baartman, on debut, is next up ...

23 May 21:08

WI 17/0 (2)

Ngidi then slapped over long-on for a maximum. Windies definitely looking to go in the powerplay.

Gerald Coetzee replaces Fortuin ...

23 May 21:05

And Lungi Ngidi gets SA going from the other end.

Ryan Rickelton has a mare on the deep square fence and lets one go through for a boundary. Not great fielding, that!

23 May 21:00

Here we go.

Proteas cricket is back!

Bjorn Fortuin to start ...

23 May 20:39

West Indies: 1 Brandon King (capt), 2 Johnson Charles, 3 Kyle Mayers, 4 Roston Chase, 5 Andre Fletcher, 6 Fabian Allen, 7 Matthew Forde, 8 Akeal Hosein, 9 Gudakesh Motie, 10 Shamar Joseph, 11 Obed McCoy

23 May 20:38

Proteas: 1 Quinton de Kock, 2 Reeza Hendricks, 3 Ryan Rickelton, 4 Matthew Bretzkee, 5 Rassie van der Dussen (capt), 6 Wiaan Milder, 7 Andile Phehlukhwayo, 8 Gerald Coetzee, 9 Bjorn Fortuin, 10 Ottneil Baartman, 11 Lungi Ngidi

23 May 20:38

SA skipper Rassie van der Dussen at the toss interview: "It's a good chasing ground, not much will change. Hope to get game time and get used to conditions. Rickelton is in and Baartman gets a chance. Gerald Coetzee also plays."
